Amazing, But Not Surprising

August 23rd, 2011

The right wing has little but scorn for Obama as Qaddafi falls, as they did when we got bin Laden. Even McCain is whining, despite having cozied up to Qaddafi, promised him weapons, and even bowed to him a little.

Had Dubya got bin Laden and worked to topple Qaddafi, he would have been hailed as a genius and a hero (as he was when Qaddafi gave up his worthless nuclear program), and the right wing would have forgiven him the whole debt thing… except that they never blamed him for the debt thing, then or now.

The audacity of their hypocrisy is blinding.

7 years ago, the wingnuts were bragging on how W brought Qadaffi in from the fringe.

The premise for Iraq invasion was that we would be greeted with flowers by freedom longing people, that the oil revenues would pay for the invasion and that Iraq was the cornerstone for the Middle East.

7 years later, still in Iraq, tab over one trillion dollars, no oil revenue, no flowers, no nothing. .

Meanwhile, over in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, freedom and democracy are brought into the Middle East… from the periphery, not from the cornerstone out, but the periphery in, and all on the cheap – just a few dropped bombs and air superiority support for the Rebels.

I know a lot of liberals don’t like the idea, but maybe we should do the same for Syria. Use air support to sink Syrian navy and destroy Syrian tanks and other heavy weapons, funnel weapons in through NATO allies, the Turks, and let the people over turn the dictatorship.

This is a very sick society.

The problem is not that the Republicans are so bizarre, the problem is that they have the support they do.

Outside of Jon Huntsman, their candidate field is something out of the John Birch Society.
