Is There a Coder in the House?

September 1st, 2007

Does anyone out there know anything about .htaccess? Because I am getting extraordinarily frustrated here. For months, maybe years, I have tried to run hotlink and referral spam prevention using a .htaccess file, and never got it to work. About a week ago, it seemed like I got it to work… then it wasn’t working. Again. Every time I try a new way, it either lets everybody see my images, or it blocks everybody including my own site.

Please somebody contact me in the comments and help me out. We’ll talk by email. Thank you!

Sorry no coding skills, but I have a vaguely technical question that you may or may not know the answer to. I have satellite TV too (Sky Perfect) and I was wondering if you understood the Pay Per View ordering process. I visited the English website and they say you have to hook up a line to a telephone jack, but sometimes I seem to be able to press buttons on a menu on the TV ( through the remote) and get a program. I think maybe this only works during the short initial “preview” period, but I can’t read enough kanji to be sure. Sometimes I just get a naninanimasen message, and no program.

If you know anything about this, I would sure be happy to hear it. Thanks and sorry about the spamming.

vegetablej: Sorry, no I don’t understand it. Actually, I no longer use SkyPerfect; they don’t allow it in my new building, not like I used to have it.

    1. While sitting where you are at your desk in front of your computer, lift
your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles it (with your foot
    just hanging straight down).

    2. Now, while doing this, draw the number “6” in the air (in front of you),
with your right hand. – Your foot will change direction.!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know if this will help you ht access thing, yet it might be a nice break from the stress that it causes.

You might want to use the word Guru somewhere, then probably more people will help out.

This might be a nice thing to add to your blog, now that you are coding new things:

    Hey Luis,

Maybe I can help – I have actually never done much .htaccess voodoo by myself, but I think I can help you make sense out of the tutorials you find in the web. Seems like an interesting chalenge.

Maybe you could mail me your current .htaccess file, and I can see what I can do about it?

    Cheers,
