“God Damn America!” So Sings the Right Wing
As Josh Marshall points out, any attempt by the left to say America is less than respectable, even if it is by way of pointing out how things have gone wrong and must be set right, is met with contempt, ridicule, and endless harassment and degradation by the right wing. For this, they call us traitors, and insist that we hate America.
And then they turn around and rewrite the song “God Bless America” to say that God should condemn America for not allowing prayer in public schools and for not outlawing abortion.
I would agree with Marshall that this hypocrisy deserves contempt, but for the same reason that I do not regularly condemn Coulter, O’Reilly, and Limbaugh every time they say something contemptible, I cannot expect anything more from moronic fundamentalist prigs like these. It’s their nature to be contemptible, so you can’t really get your panties into a bunch because of stuff like this.
