Screw Those Bitter Bastards
April 17th, 2008
Hillary has been making a huge deal about Obama calling working-class Americans “bitter.” The media, wanting to prolong the primary battle, has accommodated her, making a “huge political firestorm” out of it for her.
Now we learn that in 1995, Hillary said of the same people: “Screw ’em.” That’s a verbatim quote:
In January 1995, as the Clintons were licking their wounds from the 1994 congressional elections, a debate emerged at a retreat at Camp David. Should the administration make overtures to working class white southerners who had all but forsaken the Democratic Party? The then-first lady took a less than inclusive approach.“Screw ’em,” she told her husband. “You don’t owe them a thing, Bill. They’re doing nothing for you; you don’t have to do anything for them.”
Let’s see if this becomes an issue the media picks up on. Any wagers?
Great catch there on that quote… unfortunately her quote refers to southern white working class folk. Everyone knows that there is only one state in the south that matters – Florida. It’s not like she said that about Pennsylvania working whites… now those people matter…
…and yes, it is all about whether they can (in her mind) do something for her (just as it was about whether they could do something for Bill in 1995)…
