Flying Chicken

November 3rd, 2012

I must have passed this place near the south exit of Shinjuku Station a dozen times, and never noticed it—until today:

Skwereed Flying Chicken

This is one of those ones where you wonder if the sign is intentional…

    Aah, the treasures of Japlish.

Haha, they spelled “skewered” wrong, as well.
You MUST approach them sometime with English spelling lessons.
(Tell them you’ll work for yakitori….)

After all these years of English education in Japan, the fact that doosies like this still exist never ceases to amaze me.

It reminds me of a funny story about a Japanese woman in an American airport. Having no spoken English ability, she went to the airport cafe and asked for “hotto”, which she had assumed was the right word for “coffee”.

The waitress was confused, but brought the woman a hotdog with a look like, “It THIS what you wanted?”. I guess it was a shock to learn that her “English” wasn’t English at all.
