Rewriting History

November 15th, 2005

Yes, that’s right. The Democrats are rewriting history. Yeah.

“Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war. These critics are fully aware that a bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community’s judgments related to Iraq’s weapons programs.”

President Bush, Nov. 11, 2005

Except…

“Our executive order did not direct us to deal with the use of intelligence by policymakers, and all of us agreed that that was not part of our inquiry.”

Laurence Silberman, Co-chair of the Bipartisan Senate Investigation Commission on Intelligence Capabilities, on March 31, 2005; speaking with President Bush in attendance

And let’s not forget…

“The larger point is, and the fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons program? And the answer is, absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn’t let them in. And, therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power, along with other nations….”

President Bush, July 14, 2003

Although…

United Nations weapons inspectors arrived in Iraq today to re-launch the search for weapons of mass destruction.

News Report, November 18, 2002

And on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, U.N. weapons inspectors were forced to leave Iraq due to Bush’s impending invasion. After the invasion, Bush refused to allow the inspectors back in:

The United States will not permit United Nations weapons inspectors to return to Iraq, saying the US military has taken over the role of searching for Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction.

News Report, April 24, 2003

Any last words, Mr. Bush?

“It is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began.”

President Bush, Nov. 11, 2005
