Pompous Blowhard
Trump was furious when city officials revealed that he hadn’t voted much for a few decades:
Records unearthed by NY1, Trump’s hometown news station, show he has not voted in primary elections for 21 years. City election board spokeswoman Valerie Vazquez confirmed NY1’s story at the weekend.
The news prompted a furious denial from Trump. “I voted in every general election … You’re going to pay a big price because you’re wrong … I have records that I voted and so does the board of elections … I signed in at every election,” he told NY1.
“Pay a big price,” huh? What, he’s going to sue?
And you know what would work better than threatening to show records that you voted? Actually showing records that you voted. If I were Trump and I had the records, I would have simply picked up the records (presumably they are not buried in the arctic or anything) and shown them right away. So far, no records.
Instead, all we get is hot wind from a man who has shown the intellectual and political savvy of a turnip. Really, the man thinks he’ll lower oil prices by just blustering, and had no idea why privacy had anything to do with abortion. And when he claimed that he was uncovering dirt on Obama in Hawaii and was asked for an example, he told the interviewer, “That’s none of your business.”
Right now, Trump has even less credibility than Palin, and that is saying a hell of a lot. It’s not everyone who can appear even dumber and more blustery than her. Seriously, Trump could claim that he was breathing and I would not trust him until someone held a mirror up to his nose.
So, naturally, he’s the most popular presidential candidate amongst Republicans.
I heard Trump being interviewed in 2007 – and let me tell you, he is far to the left of every person running in the Republican party.
Quite simply, I think, Trump is a liberal playing the Republicans for chumps. It wouldn’t bother Trump if he thoroughly decimated the Republican party.
He sees an opening, an opportunity to exploit and he’s going for it. I find this fantastic and fun theatre. Pass the popcorn, please. I’m gonna enjoy watching the trump march to the sea.
Basically, the entire field of Republican candidates is running as hard and as far to the right, culturally and economically as possible. This left a big field to the left of this mashed up pack to maneuver.
Trump saw this.
Because Trump ‘plays a capitalist on T.V.’ he doesn’t have to run to the hard right on economic topics. The rest of the field has to appeal to the economic elites to get money so they can get exposure and name recognition, Trump already has both. This meant he doesn’t have to run to the hard right on, at least, economic issues. Because people are worried about economic issues, this was likely to have more traction than normal.
Back in late February early March, Trump test marketed a strategy of taking leftist economics and surrounding it in nationalist rhetoric. This got traction with the rabid republican mass base who are pissed off about the loss of job opportunities, including off shoring.
But then there was the cultural right. This is hard for Trump to pull off, but because economic issues have heightened importance these days this is not as important. The birther thing and other related fodder gives him traction in this area. Both Obama and Trump like the birther issue unresolved – they both gain traction from it (it makes Obama look saner than the Republicans who are arguing with each other over this).
Of course the whole Trump thing is tongue in cheek. A joke. But the joke isn’t on liberals and/or Democrats, but conservatives and Republicans. Trump is giving the Republican establishment fits. They will, in the end, pull out all the stops to stop him – making the assault on Ross Perot by the establishment look like a walk in the park, I hope Trump is prepared to matador their bull rush.
From my perspective, the least Trump does is make the Republican party in more disrepute, the most he does is become President and in between, shift the center of the debate to the left.
Furthermore in a general election, you could have Trump actually running to the left of Obama – especially on Economic issues, and economics, is Obama’s one Achilles heal, and so Trump could run rings around Obama in an economic debate.
I see lots Liberals bad mouthing Trump. I just don’t get it. Liberals should be secretly enjoying Trump, on several layers – at least that’s how it seems to me, but then again, my political instincts haven’t proven that good, after all, I was a John Edwards guy last time around. Then I switched to Obama, and he basically let Wall Street take over economic policy. I’m not sure what I’m missing here.
