Bush at 33%

April 21st, 2006

Must be a CBS News poll, right? Or maybe a Pew poll, they’ve had him really low when others didn’t. No? Nope.

It’s a Fox poll. Fox, the most stridently pro-Bush news organization you can imagine, has Bush with a 33% approval rating. You know things are bad when your #1 sycophant is putting your ratings in the cellar. Bush has been rated at 33% once and only once, in a CBS poll a month and a half ago. This is extremely bad news for Bush. Fox says it’s because his support among Republicans is slipping. Of course, that’s a no-brainer–his popularity is so low, that’s pretty much the only group he has left to lose from.

In comparison, the lowest approval number for Clinton was 37% (from 1993), a score tied by Bush 41 and Ford; Reagan and Johnson went as low as 35%. In the last half century, only Nixon went lower, to 24%, but then he had to resign.

In comparison, Fox News polls had Clinton with an approval rating of 68% at this point in his presidency (April 1998), numbers which he kept through the end of his term. Think about that: Bush’s numbers are less than half of what Clinton’s were at identical points in their tenure.

Interesting juxtaposition with your last post.

One is history’s opinion, the other is our opinion now.

I see him going below 30%. When? The next screw up that comes along. And with Bush one usually comes along every few months or so. But they are coming faster and faster now because there are so many chickens coming home to roost. Seeds that he planted long ago, where he thought he could muscle and bully through the use of bad civics with a policy of bluster.

You can only have policies based on the theory that Water runs uphill for so long. Then the deluge.

I am surprised that the sagging poles are taking so long. I figured Republicans would be blaming him for the trashing of the republican party – and when that started there would be a new deluge. As it is, he’s making some changes and I think some republicans are waiting and hoping that its enough to keep them from going under.

Perhaps his pole ratings are going down with every increase in the Oil price. This would serve him right. People know he’s an oil oligarhy’s president. Gas is at $3 a gallon, and all his exvoters drive SUVs. At one time, just before the Iraq attack, a friend of mine speculated that he would use $20 a barrel oil to get the economy in gear. But that never came. The economy is muddling along. But its not as good as they say. GNP is up, but employment is not as good as they say. In the U.S. an unemployed person gets rolled of the roles after 6 months. The unemployment index is more like a flow indicator not an employment indicator.

There will be another big thing to come around with this guy. There be another scandal, another indictment, another “katrina” of some sort. It’s almost impossible for him to escape his fate now. The question is, will we go down with him? Hitler tried to implement a scortched earth policy at the end of his reign. Will Bush? Will he attack Iran? With Nukes? I could very well see him giving orders, and nobody paying one bit of attention to him.

In the mean time, he’s at 33% now, will he catch up with Cheney’s 18%? My money says he will.
