OK, Here Are the Cute Little Pictures. Now Will You Buy It?

According to MacRumors, emoji support is coming to the iPhone in v. 2.2:

Hard to believe that some people would look at the iPhone and say, “yeah, it’s got massive expandability with cheap and free software in addition to being an all-in-one cell phone, iPod, email, (best portable) web browser, calendar & contacts, GPS with Google-maps integration, etc. device…. but I don’t want to get it because I can’t insert cute cartoon images of puppies in my text messages!”

And yet.

Still, the iPhone has a big “Wow!” factor here; even months after its release, whenever students in my school see me using it, they “ohh” and “ahh” and are delighted when I let them play with it-and are still blown away when I show them the search feature on the maps app.

GG and I used the maps search feature multiple times this weekend. We were down in Portland for a wedding reception and when her car’s GPS system didn’t have a place (restaurant or whatever) in its database, we just used the Google Maps on the iPhone.

Boom, it pops up on the map, and then we can hit the arrow on the result and get the address. Enter that into the car’s GPS (wouldn’t it be nice if it automatically passed through?) and a route to the location pops right up instantly.

    Very, very slick.

I do have to say how much I hate the outrageous fees charged for international use of the iPhone’s data component (or phone calls for that matter). We could have used the maps function all the time on vacation in Vietnam and Thailand, but since data is a fortune we kept it turned off.

But at home… man, it rules.
