so you teach in Japan… okay I gotta ask. What/where do you teach, and how hard was it to get a job like that? what kind of qualifications did you need?

For the past few years I’ve been dreaming of at least visiting Japan if not somehow someday moving there, and I’ve also thought abotu ditching software and becomign a teacher once my student loans get a bit paid off. Combining the two would be pretty damn cool, imo.

and the iPod looks great. I reallly want one but alas I do not have the cash.

Jason: I teach at an American college here in Tokyo. A Master’s degree is required (usually in the field being taught; mine is in TESOL, but once full-time, and due to the lack of qualified instructors in this venue, I was able to teach the survey course is Computer Science, being more than just a little familiar with the field).

If you have a B.A., that’s enough to get a job at a conversation school, or possibly the JET program. For conversation schools, you just come to Japan and start looking, unless you can find a school that recruits in the U.S. (though some of those schools are less than reputable, like NOVA). The JET program you can apply for from within the U.S. Their page is:

I don’t know much about jobs specifically teaching Computer Science in Japan, despite my position. One source you might look at, though, is:

What degree(s) do you have, and in what field(s)?

Hi.
I have a BSC in Computer Science and I have started my MA in it. I want to appeal for a scolarship for studying MA in Japan. For that, I need to write a detailed research proposal and to find a couple of professors that will send a recommendation for me and may be have me in their university later.
Do you happen to know what fields in Computer Science are worth trying? Where can I find some professors that can help me?
