Top Image, Bottom Dwellers

March 15th, 2007

This Modern World is reporting that Rush Limbaugh is claiming that “There’s no question the left has been trying to destroy the family structure,” and points out that Limbaugh himself is three-times divorced. One should also consider that the three biggest names either in the family-values Republican race (McCain & Giuliani) or rumored to be entering (Gingrich) have been divorced eight times between them. The greatest icon of the Republican Party, Ronald Reagan, was also divorced and had a highly dysfunctional family.

We also see this pattern in military service; Republicans claim to be the warriors, the hawks, the macho heroes, the champions of the military. But while some have served, more Democrats are veterans than Republicans, and the Bush administration, like the conservative punditry, is chock-full of draft dodgers. Democrats do a far better job treating the troops well and taking care of veterans; Republicans talk big, but just use the military and then crap all over the soldiers and vets.

The same pattern arises in economics: Republicans are heralded as the financial whizzes, as being the ones who can bring in the bucks and turn around the economy. And yet, Republican administrations are more often than not disastrous to the economy while Democrats fare far better; certainly, as far as job creation goes, over the past 80 years, the worst-performing Democrat did better at getting Americans employed than the best Republican; Democrats monopolize the better top half of that list, while the cellar is filled with nothing but Republicans.

What this demonstrates is that in truth, the Republican politicians and conservative pundits excel at one thing more than anything else: Image Building. Advertising. Selling a lie. That’s their true talent and trade: the Whopper.

    Yes.

The Republicans run their party like a corporation.

They market their product like a corporation as well, complete with focus group testing right down to the specific words and phrases used.

LIke a corporation, they take in as much as they can, by providing as little as they can.

Not only do they preach family values and practice another, or preach fiscal resraint while running up debts, or preach militarism while avoiding service, their most ardent gay basher’s are gay, their most ardent christianist Preachers are the most ardent practitioners anti-christian behaviour.
