Feministe makes a good point: when religious extremists try to blow up clinics where abortions are performed, it is not called “terrorism,” and nobody makes a big deal about it. On Google News, a search for “texas abortion clinic bomb” gets 264 hits. But a search for “texas abortion clinic bomb terrorist” gets none.
The suspect is being charged with “manufacture of explosive material,” “violating freedom of access to clinic entrances,” and, interestingly, “use of weapons of mass destruction,” which I admit sounds terroristy, but certainly does not apply to the usual definition of WMD. But no specific terrorism charges have been brought, despite the fact that abortion clinic bombings fit the definition of “terrorism” to a tee.
