Eyelid Twitching

April 6th, 2003

NOTE: This article, vapid though it is, gets zillions of Google hits. I wrote an update that will be more helpful, and more entertaining, to twitching sufferers.

————————————-

Don’t you hate that?

For apparently no reason this kind of thing happens. In cases like these, it’s nice to have the Internet–trivial stuff like this is always covered. Turns out that twitching eyelid is fairly common. It starts in one or both eyelids (in my case, the upper lid), is sporadic and random, sometimes spurred into activity by tensing your eye muscles. It can last for a few hours to a few days, though in cases more rare, it can last months or even years (egad!).

There is no known cause or cure for it. Some people think it may be a sign of potassium deficiency and suggest eating bananas. Others say it’s stress-related, and one person even suggested that diet soft drinks are a cause.

All I know is that right now I’m in day three of the most recent attack, both eyelids and stronger than before.

I guess as far as problems go, I should be thankful that this is the more irritating one I have, and not anything worse…

You know… The funny thing is: You say that this is one of the most popular posts of your blog for search engines, but visitors didn’t leave a single comment.

I must sympathize anyway. One of the most searched for posts in my blog is the one where I just mention that I bite my shirt-collar when nervous, thus most of my shirts have holes in that place. The post is in portuguese, though, so no use linking. They never leave any comments either (the visitors, not the shirts :-)).

Do you know about the Duelling Banjo effect? It might be the reason.

You’re in the wrong place. Go to:

    http://www.blogd.com/archives/000253.html

That’s the hot spot, linked to at the top of the post, created not long after this one. People go there to comment, not here. It has 442 comments and counting (as of 2/13/05). That’s slightly less than one comment a day for almost one and a half years.

I have a similiar problem, my right upper eyelid has been twitching for 3 weeks now, almost every 5 minutes, sometimes nonstop. I asked my doctor about it, and he suggested the low potassium levels eating bananas crap. I think if you forget about it, it goes away.
I don’t know, good luck with that.

In India superstitious people have a saying that if your left eye twitches something bad is going to happen and if the right twitches something good is going to happen!!!I for sure can say that my right eye twitched for almost 2-3 months and something great happened which changed the future course of my life.Medically it is linked with low Blood Pressure.
