Trippy

April 26th, 2009

A Release Candidate of Windows 7 is out there now, and one ‘feature‘ being touted is the wallpapers provided with the system. A few samples (more here):

Wtbg02

Maybe I’m just not hip enough, but does it strike anyone else that possibly psychedelic drugs were involved in making some of these? Or do most people nowadays consider such images not bizarre? I have noted similarly strange artwork available as Zune etchings, but these seem to go even further. They don’t even make much sense as wallpapers, as they would probably make your Desktop icons difficult to see.

When I see this stuff mentioned on web sites, it is often referred to as “cool” or awesome.“

Really, I’m serious here. Am I just a completely non-trendy, out-of-tune grampaw or something?

Trippy was obviously tripping. You know… Lucy in the sky with diamonds, I am the Walrus, tomorrow never knows, koo koo ka choo…

I am ambivalent about psychedelic art, but I really like the psychedelic era in music. I’d love to turn you on…

Yes, we’re getting old, that’s all.

Youngsters — 25 yos — these days were born after the Mac came out, Windows 3.0 was prolly their first machine when they were kids.

An alternate explanation is that this is the same UI coordinator that OK’d the default XP theme.
