Eyelid Twitching
Okay, it seems like a large number of people visiting my site are coming to read about eyelid twitching. In my fourth post (I am now over 250), I simply mentioned that I had one of those eyelid twitching episodes a lot of people seem to get, and it was irritating the heck out of me.
Suddenly, this site became the Mecca for Eyelid Twitchers. I can only suppose that there is relatively little out there about it, or that more people link to my site than they do to sites all about Eyelid Twitching, so I rank higher in Google.
Anyway, I started feeling bad for all those poor twitchers who came to my site seeking information or relief, and just found a really small note saying that my own eyelid was twitching as well. I mean, misery loves company and all, but it really isn’t useful outside of that. So I figured I might as well write something more substantive about eyelid twitching, so here it is.
First off, there’s a name for this: myokymia. “Myo-” is the Greek root for “eye,” and “-kymia” means “I’m making up this etymology.” But the name, at least, is for real. They’re also called eyelid “tremors,” as it sounds kind of psycho to have a “twitch,” or worse, a “spasm.” Nobody likes spasms. “Tremors” sounds cooler.
Myokymia is, according to doctors, “a common condition where a few of the muscle fibers of the upper — or more commonly the lower — eyelid contract irregularly. … Myokymia is closely associated with stress, fatigue, lack of sleep and too much caffeine.”
That’s doctorese for, “you’re eyelid’s twitching, moron. Try changing something.”
This doctor says that myokymia is associated with “brainstem neoplasms,” which sounds even cooler than “tremors.” “Brainstem neoplasms” is bound to get people at the office to pay attention when you talk about your problem. But then, the treatment for that includes a “lumbar puncture with examination of cerebrospinal fluid,” so maybe it’s best not to milk the neoplasm idea too far. Especially for a stupid eyelid twitch.
Frankly, when I get The Twitch, I’m not usually stressed out, I am getting as much sleep as ever, sometimes more, and I don’t drink coffee (I even have decaf Coke). Maybe it’s my Evil Plan to Dominate the World, we usually get eye twitches when we do that.
Some people stand by the theory that it is a vitamin deficiency, usually potassium (because someone once heard that potassium has something to do with muscles; we’re still trying to track that one down), and others swear that it’s a B-vitamin deficiency, saying they lose the twitch immediately when they start taking the pills. I have the strong feeling, however, that this is more to do with something that rhymes with the “flacebo effect.” For all of you who want the above remedies to work, I cleverly disguised my opinions about it there.
Treatment: Reduce your stress, get more sleep, nix the coffee, eat more bananas and B-complex pills. Throw in a couple of sugar pills for good measure. Save the cerebrospinal fluid exam for emergencies.
Or, you might just wait for them to go away on their own. Whatever.

Here’s a bit of an anatomy lesson for you – your lower lid is controlled by your facial nerve (the VIIth cranial nerve). It innervates your orbicularis muscle, which moves your lower eyelid. Your upper eyelid has two muscles operating it – the levator palpebrae superioris and Muller’s muscle. The levator is controlled by the superior division of your oculomotor nerve (IIIrd cranial nerve) and Muller’s muscle is controlled by your sympathetic system (which is why your eyes go wide when you’re scared or stressed – adrenaline activates the sympathetic system and can cause upper lid retraction).
Blepharospasm is commonly caused by twitching of your orbicularis muscle. This can be caused by a lot of things that are usually benign. However, the control centre for the VIIth nerve lies in the brainstem. If you get a persistent lower eyelid twitch associated with other signs e.g. double vision on extreme left or right gaze, you should make an appointment with your nearest eye clinic and ask to see an orthoptist or an ophthalmologist. This is because the VIIth and VIth cranial nerve control centres lie next to each other in the brainstem, so if disease is present in one it will often progress to affect the other. The VIth nerve controls the eye muscle that moves your eye away from your nose, hence you might experience double vision when looking to the left or right. An orthoptist or ophthalmologist can pick up on this and arrange to have you scanned.
If you have an eyelid twitch, don’t worry about it too much unless you start getting other eye symptoms to go with it. If you have a lower lid one and it bothers you really badly or is cosmetically unsightly you can have it botoxed – that deadens your orbicularis muscle for a couple of weeks so it can’t twitch, but it doesn’t last forever and there is the risk of corneal exposure as well as leakage into other eye muscles.
Hope that helps for anybody who’s worried about all the brainstem neoplasm stuff.
What an awsome site this is!!!
i have had an eyelid twitch for the last week and i think i have a mild case of hypocondria. as i was sure i had parkinsons disease(watched a E true hollywood story on michael j fox and learnt his first symptom was a twitching finger ahhh not good i have parkinsons) intill now i am glad am not the only one with this problem. Nice work all round.
Well, Right Eye, upper lid. Driving me bananas. Sitting at work, researching the hell out of this stupid twitch. I had a serious security breach here at work and, during the post-mortem when the CEO interviewed me, my eye started twitching like a madman. Great look!
“I was not involved with teh breach” TWITCH, TWITCH. I must’ve looked like a liar. Anyhoo..
I enjoy my coffee. I get enough sleep (I think), not overly stressed, and sit in front of a LCD screen for 8 hours a day. So I suppose the coffee and LCD screen are to blame. I have arranged for, and taken a blood test. Results come tomorrow or wednesday. If I get anything illuminating back, I’ll reply and let you know.
Happy twitching,
Timbo
I had a frequent twitch under my right eye for several weeks straight until I went to an acupuncturist. It was still twiching after my first 2 treatments but not as often or as severe. My 3rd treatment was yesterday morning and i have not twitched since then. This is the longest i’ve gone w/o twitching so i’m relieved and think for sure he must have cured it. Thank gooodness! It was about to drive me coocoo. So y’all twitchers might want to give acupuncture a try. Can’t hurt. He had told me that if it didn’t get better with his treatments then he suggested I see a neurologist. Glad I didn’t have to do that. If it worked for me it might very well work for some of y’all so i’d highly recommend you look into it.
I had a couple incidents in college where my right upper eye-lid would pulsate 24/7 for about 8 months straight. I could even feel muscle tensness right around the outer part of the eye. I went to multiple neurologists…a few who didn’t know how to explain what was happening. I had an MRI done to make sure a tumor wasn’t growing behind my eye (thank goodness it wasn’t a tumor). Finally, a doctor diagnosed me with hemi-facial spasming. Basically, it’s just an overactive nerve that presses againt a blood vessel, which causes the pulsation.
He put me on 300 mg of Neurontin, 3 times a day. Eventually, the twitches stopped. I have been using Neurontin on and off for the past 5 years as a precautionary measure when I feel like the pulsation is going to start back up again.
Unfortunately, the twitch is back, going on about 3 weeks now. I’m taking the Neurontin, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much except making me extremely tired. Trying out magnesium to see if it helps. I might even consider a botox injection to try and calm the nerve.
I have noticed, over time, that when I chew on the right side of my mouth, it makes my eyelid pulsate. Also, I have allergies/asthma, and when I don’t get enough oxygen, it will start up as well. Not sure what the correlation of all this is.
Question for you all: when you say ‘twitching’, do most of you mean you have a pulsation? Like it is in sync with a heartbeat?
Good luck to all.
Good heavens….
Thank you, Luis. What a nice little place to relax and prattle about something personal, incessant and blessedly mundane. Some of the remarks here made me giggle uncontrollably and made my damn eye twitch even more!
I’m a right-upper-eye twitcher. It only started yesterday evening for the first time in my life. I was waiting in a cafe for a future business partner to arrive so we can discuss a deal. And the moment he got there, the twitch started and wouldn’t stop. First time it ever happened and it’s still twitching every now and then, especially when I am taking break from whatever is occupying my attention.
That little spot would feel odd even when its not twitching; as if its no longer “mine”.
It’s not exactly irritating for me. Just makes me curious. And I silently pray that it really is an indication of good fortune since somewhat ill luck has been the order of my days for three months now.
I cared little about the health implications. I was naively curious about any superstitious implications.
Called a few people that I know has superstitious knowledge.
Two guys said danger or misfortune coming my way (damn them).
My wife said I’m about to re-encounter an old friend.
My mom said if the right eye twitches, fortune is coming. If left, I’m going to be invited to partake in some great food.
One guy and two ladies said since it’s my right, it means an unexpected fortune is around the corner. An unexpected problem about to occur if its the left eye doing the mambo.
I don’t think I drink more coffee than anyone. I’ve had as much or as little sleep as anyone.
I’ve stared at computer screens even longer in the past when I dwelled in the land of the employed.
Yeah. Life is stressful right now. But I’ve been through much, much worse.
I was thinking maybe there was some sort of global season of eye-twitching going on, but as far as I can scroll, there are new members to this club signing in every week of every month since Dec 2003.
Whatever the case may be, and though I don’t think we’ll ever form any lasting relationships, it’s a real pleasure meeting all of you.
Thanks again, Luis.
I wrote a few posts further back. I haven’t got the blood tests back yet, but the twitching has dropped from conservatively 3/hour to 1/day. The secret – lots of water and a multi-vitimin each morning. Give it a whirl.
Good luck!
Timbo
my left upper eyelid has been twitching for like 3 days now! every 5 minutes my eyelshes shake and its freaking me out! haha im under no stress school is getting out in 3 days im NOT stressed. I get enough sleep …. i dont know what it is? hmm wierd right>? this is an awesome sight though =)
Kristin … mine certainly seems to feel like it pulses with my heartbeat …
Anxiety. I have found it to be a tick when I am anxious.
ONE MONTH now — many times a day and in the &^%$#@ left one at that. This is bad luck enough!
I have had both eyelids twitching off and on all day now for about 2 months. I have been on chemotherapy for 5 months, doing the Adriamyacin and Cytoxin drugs for 4 doses and now the Taxotere for the last 4. I had no eyelid twitching before this. Yes, to answer somebody’s post way up yonder, short term memory has seemed to accompany it since the twitcing started. I asked the doctors and they ALL say it is not a result of the chemotherapy. I have been eating alot of acidic foods. For instance, each morning I have fresh cubed pineapples, prunes, cherries, strawberries and blueberries on a plate. The eye twitching never happened until I started eating these fruits. I am going to stop eating them and see what happens.
I was told by a friend she believed her twitching eye issue was because she was taking benedryl every night. I have had an eye twitching issue and take benedryl every night too (only 250mg). I’m wondering if it could be the medicine creating the issue. I have seen other people suggest it as a cure. Any docs out there with a theory?
Ha. I’m pretty much in the same boat as all of you guys. My eyes (especially the left) have been twitching for months and its driving me insane. I’ve tried all of the above, I would believe that it would be caused by stress above all the other possibly causes listed, but its just crazy!! Theres gotta be something that can stop this madness
I haven’t got a brain tumour??? … Thank God!!!
What a cool site. I went from panic to laughter in one minute. I have read every posting … hilarious
Thank God I found this site. I thought I had MS, a tumor or Parkinson’s! My upper right eyelid has been twitching for a couple of weeks. I don’t know if it is stress but I AM very stressed right now. I noticed mine started after seeing a chiropractor for my crappy back. My back feels so much better but now I have this! He says it could be my nerves strengthening and getting signals they haven’t got in a long time because I let my back get so bad. It makes sense to me but I hope they are done soon. I feel like everyone is staring at me but when I tell people it is happening they say they can’t see it!
Hello!!
I have been having lower eyelid twitching on my left eye for coming to 2 weeks. It is so irritating because it twitches the whole day. But recently it stopped for a few hours and came back when I am stressed or after a nap. It is very frustrating! I think I am stressed and tired.
Maybe I should try out the vitamins as I don’t take processed one.
Hope it will end soon.
how does the myth go? maldives
Hi everyone i’m back after 5 months when my twitching started after christmas. It has finally GONE within the last 2 days. I can honestly say nothing that I did contributed to its exit. You can take as many vitamins, quinnine, antihistamines, osteopathy, water or whatever and it will make NO difference so save your pennies and live with it until IT decides to go. I had mine every 5 minutes or so and a twitch would last for about a minute. Mine was the lower left. I was convinced that I had some underlying reason and got incredibly anxious about it. For the last 2 weeks or so it didn’t happen spontaneously but only when I sneezed or rubbed the eye and now it doesn/t even happen when I sneeze – a sure sign of its absence. Anyway please everyone don’t stress about it, ignore it and get on with your lives and honestly it will go. It may take months but it will finally subside then vanish completely. It is not a sign of anything nasty or worrisome its just part of life’s rich tapestry.
Hey Fellow Twitchers!
I LOVE this site! It has given me such peace of mind and I cannot wait to try some of the possible remedies. THANK YOU!!!
I am a right-eye-upper-lid twitcher and have had the problem on and off for about 6 months now. I was convinced that it is due to a brain tumor or some other horrible afflictment! So, I am relieved to know that it is more than likely just due to living —- stress, ingestion of too much caffeine, inadequate vitamin intake, etc…
I am a busy stay-at-home Mom who really has a wonderful life – but I carry alot of stress internally. So, it makes sense that this twitch (SO ANNOYING – it even feels like it could interfere with my driving sometimes which is
scary!)is due to stress, etc… Thanks for giving me another health reason to cut off the caffeine and exercise more!!
3 weeks now. Stress related i believe. To much travel.
Thank you for your wit and sharred info, much appriciated!
you know, I thought I was crazeeeee. I google ‘eye twitch’ and i find a world a twitchin. Mine is my upper left eye.
I gotta believe it’s stress. Stress is insidious.
The answer for me is exercise. Gotta do more (actually I have to do any to begin with)
I have noticed, that my eye starts twitching when taking the vitamin pills.
Has anyone else noticed this, im trying to figure it out by trail and error, but it takes months to stop twitching when it starts.
But take the pills and it will definately start again after a couple of weeks.
Im trying to figure which exact ingredient is causing it, but like I say that will take ages. At the moment im taking multivitamins with minerals, so theres a lot to choose from.
This sucks… my lower right does it for like 3 sec about 30 times a day… Ive read some of these posts… it really seems like there isnt one single cause for this… my theory… i think its like the “check engine” light for the human body… somethings up… and its ur brain trying to tell you to figure it out.
I can’t believe there are so many twitchers out there! My upper left eyelid has been twitching for 3 weeks, constantly and it is driving me crazy! I have had twitches before, but the longest they have lasted was a day. I can’t take it anymore!!!!! Glad to know there are others that feel my pain!
Eye twictch started yesterday – fairly constant for 10-20 minutes every couple hours. Lower left. I think the whole thing is related to changes in blood chemistry – eating more fruit as we go into summer and environmental stimuli (computers, driving, eye stress type junk).
Could also be the job stress and stopped smoking (on day 6). Cut out the caffeine with the smokes, so got the coffee-jones going as well. Drink a hell of a lot of water and green tea (high caffeine, but supposedly a good caffeine). Also started playing new video game – hours on end. Exercise is sporadic.
Guess you can say I’ve got all the reasons to have the eye twitch. Better change some stuff cause this is very annoying – great site by the way.
Right upper eyelid twitcher here…..started about 6 weeks ago. Also in the lovely time frame of menopause. Could there be a connection? My MD says no. I don’t know…
The twitching comes and goes, actually had about three days off and wham …. it’s back.
I eat a balanced diet, limit sweets, moderate exercise, good water intake, little caffiene. Recently added vit E to my diet. I think I will try a vit B complex. Has that helped anyone?

This is wierd. My left eye has been twitching all day. I mean, not constantly, but fairly. Maybe more than is typical on the comments on this site. I’d say a steady couple of minutes at a time, out of every five minutes, getting more steady and longer throughout the day. Mostly my lower left, but occasionally my upper left twitches just a tad too. I can see it slightly in the mirror.
This is a first for me, though. I am hoping it will go away, but after reading this site, maybe it will be around for months. It sucks.
I’m always stressed, but have been down about an hour’s worth of sleep for the past two nights. Should sleep in tomorrow, but my inlaws are coming in tonight. Maybe that’s why my eye is twitching.
Its definitely not caffeine (although I do drink my fair share, it is a steady, but just in the morning dose).
At first I thought it was just weird; now it is driving me nuts!
My Right upper eye lid is twitching quite a bit in the last week. I also have a bad hand tremor I can’t control. I am only 28 but have had the shakes for years.
I have been a shift worker for 11 years, enjoy coffee plus spend most of my spare time staring at a computer screen in the dark. So I guess it is life style choices that have contributed to this.
One day I must break out of my bad habbits.
Ugh! My right lower lid won’t stop twitching! It has been constant…CONSTANT for one week and honestly, it’s pissing me off…
Ok, Another upper left eye twitcher!! I have neck problems and Headaches that only effect the left side of my head from the base wrapping around toward my eye. I also have about “twice a month” a white out visual “thing” that happens for about 45-60 sec in the Left eye for two years. Not sure if these are all related but it has been 10 days with the eye twitching. I am a 37 year old mother of 4. My right eye and right side of my head and neck feel perfectly fine. Sooooo frustrating.
I am 46 and a transcriptionist. My right upper eyelid has been twitching for two months, at least it feels like it. If I look in the mirror at the time of the twitching feeling my eye looks normal. I have turned my eyelid inside out but don’tsee anything. By eyeball looks okay too. If I close my eye and open it that is when it will really twitch, I mean it feels like it. My eyeball feels rather dry and sore also. My life sucks enough right now and I don’t need this added problem of eyelid twitching. I mean, it is very bothersome but when I tell people they don’t seem to have pity but just look at me and smile.
Well, I just found this sight and while I sympathize with everyone, I have to tell you, my left eyelid started twitching when I was in the eighth grade. I am now 57 years old. It has never stopped. I have tried everything from vitamins to muscle relaxers. Sometimes I feel like I am losing my mind. The only relief that I get is when I apply a warm moist towel or other compress to my eye. It is primarily my left eye but there are times when they both twitch. I had no idea that so many people suffer with the same condition. Whatever it is ;0) If anyone finds a solution, yeah right!!!, let us know.
I had Lasik about 8 years ago with dry eye problems for years. After 3 failed attempts at punctal plugs, I had my puncti cauterized about 6 weeks ago. Well, the upper left has been twitching about 80 percent of the time ever since. I feel like I traded one problem for another. I am going crazy, it seems worse with sunlight or looking at a computer. It even kept twitching for the Doctor (you know, symptoms usually go a way the minute you walk in the door), it even twitches when I’m asleep, well, obviously I wouldn’t know that, but I wake up, eyes still closed, and it is twitching sometimes. I went to the Doctor and found out the left puncti (same side as twitching) had opened back up and he had to cauterize it agin (ooh, lots of fun if you like pain and the smell of your own flesh burning) and it seems to be slightly improved in fact, I”m just now thinking it’s getting better.
Well, at least I got that off my chest and I’m right now in the 20% time frame that it’s not twitching!!
The Doctor said I could get a Botox shot if I decided. I’m thinking, what if he misses, I’ll end up with a droopy eye for weeks, though I may give in if I get desperate enough. I”m hoping that it will stop on its own.
I would just like to add that I think that Nicotine has a factor in the eye twitching also, I quit for over a year and have recently started again ( Im quiting next week! ) and I have had incesent eye twitching of the left eye……..
Thank goodness I’m not alone! I’m 40 yrs of age and have had an eye twitch since I was a young girl. In my younger years it would come and go. For the last three months my upper left eyelid has been twitching nonstop…it’s doing it right now! Argh! I think I’ll try the suggested remedies and see if it works.
So glad to have some company in my misery! lol I am also one of the upper-left eyelid twitchers. I’m at work now, and it’s tough to sue the computer when my flippin’ eyelid won’t stop twitching…I’m just sitting here with my finger in my eye lol this sucks. Ima try the whole vitamins/more sleep thing – but I don’t feel particularly stressed out…anways SIGH wtf what a dumb medical problem to have
I get lower-left eyelid twitching frequently. I am on the computer several hours a day at work, and at home. I drink coffee every morning, and energy drinks a few times per week, plus caffeine-laced sodas almost daily.
It’s nice to know, I’ve got company with the twitching business. I just started having the left, upper lid twitching. It’s been 3 weeks now, and it’s driving me crazy. No one seems to see it, so it makes me feel like I’m really going mad. I’ve tried everything, from getting more rest, taking magnesium, calcium, watching comedies, thinking positive… to no avail. I thought maybe I should stand on my head, lol!
The following are some recent life changes:
1) Increase in stress
2) Insomnia
3) Decrease in exercise
4) Started on topical Nizoral for tinea versicolor.
And if this started just 3 weeks ago, this may be some of the reasons why I have the eye twitching.
I do notice that by listening to relaxing music, and turning off the media, my twitching takes a short break. And if all fails, I’ll be seeing the doctor.
Boy, am I glad I found this site!
For the past 2 weeks I have been going crazy with ET (sort of palapates/pulses for me) – its non stop, even when sleeping. As I awake before opening my eys I feel it. I always had it everyone now and then, few moments and then stopped – but now its non stop.
About me:
50 Male
1 24oz coffee/day.
Dont drink.
Dont smoke.
work – very stressful, 9+ hours PC use, few if/no breakes.
(work has gotten worse in past month).
never have taken vitamins
I have concerned over other medical conditions. 6 months ago I avg min of 6 hrs/wk pf exercize. Did a combination of yoga, aerobics, tennis, dancing. I was disease free. Had to stop due to needing heart stent for blocked artery… go figure. have not been same since.
I’m not sleeping as much past 6 months.
Note: have been Lasik’d for 4 years. L eye distant, R eye for near – guess which eyelid twitches….. yes, R bottom lid.
My plan is (now that I found this site and feel better – that my brain is not hemmoridging)…
1. start exercise once again,
2. more breaks
3. eat more bananas, perhaps start taking Centrium viatmin.
4. Will make appointment with Lasik and an Opthomologist just for kicks.
Peace,
Carl/Tampa/Fl
Investigate correlation with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). My studies have shown that 73% of all people with eyelid tremors have some form of HPV, most commonly the kind that causes plantar warts.
As if it hasn’t already been said a thousand+ times on here, “I’m glad I’m not the only one…”
Started about a month or so ago for me, both eyelids (not at the same time, seems to switch from left to right and back) upper on both sides. You can SOMETIMES see it in a mirror but only very feintly if it’s a “big” one. Hasn’t gotten too annoying yet, but I plan to make an opt. appointment later in the week as it’s been getting more and more frequent. I would say I have it around 3-5 times an hour for about 5-10 seconds at a time. If I sneeze they both start going, but other than that, I can’t pinpoint a trigger.
I have seasonal allergies and have started taking OTC Claritin-D. Things are dying down around me, so I’ve since stopped, but the twitching has not. I have maybe 2 glasses of a win PER WEEK. I have a beer or two when eating pizza. I have a normal cup of coffee a day and usually one diet soda.
I’m going to cut out the caffeine as best I can and see if that makes a difference. I bought a bottle of Centrum, going to start taking that after lunch every day. I’ve been getting no more or less sleep. Sure work is “stressful” but it’s nothing unmanageable. I’m 26 years old and healthy otherwise.
As I’ve been writing this, my right eye did it about twice, and now my left one just twitched. Bugger.
I got this annoying eye twitch as soon as I started work in a bank (mostly excel spreadsheets). I also have -1.50 eye sight on both of my eyes. So if this has something to do with stress – perhaps its also musclar strain on your eyes from having to concentrate on excel cells all day! Can’t wait for it to go away…
I’m of the “right upper eyelid twitching group” – been going on for 2 weeks now – can’t stop watching it in mirrors! The only symptom that could apply for me is that I sit in front of a computer for about 8hrs a day non stop as I work through my lunch – although I’m going to now make sure I do take regular breaks. Thanks for all the tips!
Was wondering what was going on with my right eye twitching on and off. Glad I got into this website, good to know I’m not alone- and that I’m not going insane – somewhat comforting. Consider me a member of the “Twitching Club”!
I think I may just have to lower my Concerta dosage. This twitch started today and I’ve never had it before… and it’s still going strong… since around 12:00pm to now (9:38pm.)
My left upper eyelid has been twitching for 3 days now. I figured I had a brain tumor or something. If it continues to persist, I may see a doctor.
Hunny
I had a left upper eyelid twitch for 4 months. I tried magnesium, it seemed to subside a bit, but was still there. I went for a six week holiday. The second day the twitch was gone. That’s half a year ago now. it never came back…
I have had eye twitches which now include part of my face for four years. Neurologist says it is a hemifacial spasm, is not disabling and will have rest of life. Could try botox but could leave eye open or closed. Is that better than a twitch? No. So haven’t tryed that. Am trying magnesium but seems to be some better, some not. ALways have it at least daily, but sometimes all day fairly constant, sometimes 20 times a day. Anyone ever heard of a neurological chiropractor and whether that might have some success. Tried acupuncture to no avail.
I have had this twitching going on for quite a while now, and it has gotten more frequent with stress. 10-15 times a day for 30-60 seconds. I have had 5 anthrax vaccinations, is that a possible side effect of Cipro or other vaccines?
Hello everyone ,
My left eye started twitching on the outter bottom corner yesterday today both seem to be going left eye worse .. i have muscle spasms cronic on the left side and now this after reading all of your posts i see alot of people say need to eat bananna’s but i never eat banannas but, yesterday before this all started i did ? .. i do have bad neck problems who knows .. some of you have been twitching for a long time and here i am complaining .. good luck
Dana
I suddenley got an eyelid twitch of the upper eyelid on the left hand side and have been driving me crazt for 2 mounths All the nurses at my worrk have given me lots of advice on why it occers and how to treat it.One nurse told me it was a lack of vitamins but wasn’t sure which one.So a started taking a multivitamin to cover all bases and guess what my eye twich was gone within a half an hour.Unreal…All that stress over eye twithching only to be resolved with a simple multivitamin.
cheers ….usefull man
Ok, left eye bad luck, right eye good luck. So since my twitch is in my upper right eye. I should keep drinking coffee, stay up late partying and wait for good fortune.
Very interresting match of symptomts to mine, upper left eye lid, too much coffee, too much stress.
I just love it when my Dr. says “reduce the stress in your life”. Oh, yea… why did not I think if that.
Thank you all in various posts about the info about potassium and magnesium…and foods high in those: bananna’s avocadoes, plums, fresh spinach, and soy beans.
But I’ll pass on the soy beans. Not only are they not appealing to eat, all these soy products, soy milk, soy icecream, white-gelatinous-soy-goop to be used like spagetti, are in large doses is bad for you. The Japanse eat way too much soy, and their organs over load trying to process all that concentrated plant protien.
I wish there where some really strong natural stress reducers.. I’d like to drink booze, but my body hates booze. Much more than a glass of wine per week will result in a rather ill day or two. I’m just booze intolerant.
Tranquilzers.. they work. but try getting your security clearnace renewed once being prescribed by those…. It is just like homosexulality in the old 70’s and 80’s. It would auto-kill a security clearnace. Well now that Bill Clinton put a stop to that bull-s-h(you know the rest), and Dicks Cheney daughter is about as queer and as advertizing as they get, now sex preference is not no longer a auto-kill for security.
But the gov, holds dearly to all ways to stratifying peoples. As more and more senators are found out to be utterly stoned.. it too will change.
So.. I the digresser, have taken you from eye twiching to dicks cheney… seems to fit
I’m on my 6th day of the twitch with a capital T, total and constant. I went to the doctor and they gleefully gave me an antipsychotic. I felt weird about taking it so I drank 2 beers instead and did some yoga to relax but that didn’t work. Ate some banana bread (which didn’t work) and wondered if all the potassium gets leached out of the bananas when cooked. The kids in the neighborhood are now calling me Doctor Impossible (because my eye twitch looks impossibly evil?). And the ones who can’t pronounce impossible yet are just pointing at my face. I think this little Twitch support group is helping me manage my stress and will eventually cure me.
My eyelid twitched for a couple of weeks. I had decreased my caloric intake in order to lose weight. After reaching that weight loss plateau a couple of days ago, I started eating more. POOF, twitching gone. So, just eat more, I guess! ;o)
This site gave me such a good laugh..Thank you.My upper left eye began twiching a few hours ago, first time in years. Being the paranoid person I have become latley , I dashed to the internet always thinking doom. After reading some of the post here it has stopped. I just had to post on this blog.
ah, so this is very common afterall~
eyelid twitching is very annoying! especially when you are trying to focus on doing something, and the eyelid keeps twitching in and out! I put my finger on the eyelid to feel the twitch…it’s very constant and annoying twitch! I actually get muscle twitches all over my body as well…sigh, I really need sleep or something
i have had a spontaneous twitch UNDER my eye for over a year. now the muscle is strong and i appear to have one big bag under one eye. i don’t notice the twitching, but i am starting to notice the over-grown muscle more and more. how can i stop the left side of my face from being overtaken by this twitch?? it’s hideous!
Well from what I see here, most everyone has a twitch on their left eyelid. Mine is on my right lower eyelid. I wonder if that is significant? Hmmm. Anyway, I get lots of sleep and I don’t really have any stress and I take a multivitamin everyday. But I did read something about the eye being dry and that can be a cause which I am noticing about the twitchy eye. But it doesn’t sound right to me. So I’m gonna go out and get some kind of muscle relaxer which maybe will relax the nerves around my eye. Also I thought maybe it has to do with straining to look at the computer day and night (again not sure). I just want the damn twitching to stop!!
Eye twitching is a pain…I’ve had it for about 3 years now…and it seems to be getting more frequent…and almost does it all of the time – tag teaming with my left and right eyelid…I do get a little relief for about 15 seconds sometimes, but not often. I’ve tried everything but it seems to help me to intake more Milk…I’m going to try more water and almonds and see what that does. I also have some body twitches, but not as bad as they used to be…and I’ve noticed that most of my twitching is worse with nerves / worrying…I really think most of peoples twitching is just nervousness/ worrisome folks. I also noticed that most of my twitching began after a fall off the bike onto my shoulder and hip…?? Who knows, but it’s a pain in the butt whatever it is. I’m in good shape except for that…
My eye started twitching and my doctor told me to move to a different part of the country where it’s not as humid and the clouds hang lower.
Is this true?!?!?! I worked so hard to get scholarships for Florida! NO
I honestly think there is some kind of conspiracy going on with doctors and eye twitching. Why is it that every time I go see any doctor about my eye twitching they all give me the same answers: “Get some rest” “Lower your caffeine intake” “Stop stressing”. It’s almost as though they’ve been trained and brainwashed to respond that way.
This is a horrible answer because I get more than enough sleep, I don’t drink coffee, and I’m the most laid back guy in the entire world- meaning I don’t stress. So three for three. I need another answer DOC!!!
How are we living in the year 2007, with all these advancements in technology and medicine, and yet scientists and doctors have yet found the cure for something that has probably been around since day one our existence.
Maybe I should of went into Medicine instead of Advertising.
At least there I could of worked on the cure myself.
Whats the use of flying cars, tiny little microscopic cell phones, super fast computers, multimedia on the go, when we can’t even SEE STRAIGHT!!! OR LOOK SOMEONE IN THE EYE!! HELLOO!!!!
Really glad I checked this site. Like everyone it seems, my left upper eyelid twitches many times everyday for weeks now. Hummmmmmmmmmm I eat several bananas and avacodos every week and I exercise 5 days a week. Must be stress in my case. I just kicked my husband of 4 months out!!!! Now there are two annoying things in my life! Guess I’ll just live with it until someone out there comes up with a cure. Patty
Damn people, glad I’m not alone on this. My upper right eyelid has been doing the twitch thing for a few weeks now…well probably longer. Man that’s annoying but after reading a number of posts here I think I may know the problem. I haven’t been drinking as much milk lately or taking calcium. And you need Vitamin D to absorb calcium so that makes sense. Then there’s stress. I’ve had a bit more of that lately. I am a regular taker of vitamins (especially Vitamin C) but been lacking in a couple areas after reading through here.
It’s amazing how your mind will think much worse problems until you read what other people post and have basically the same problem as you. I’m sure glad I found this site. Thanks for all of your contributions. That just reduced my stress level right there.
Hello fellow twitchers
A good tickling is the only cure for twitchy eyelid.
My twitch is in my right upper lid, slightly to the left of center. I notice it most when staring at computer screens but get it driving sometimes. I don’t associate it with stress but rather boredom or a sense of I would rather be doing something else (hence I came across this site). I get it a lot and have twitched for years but it was only yesterday when my friend Kate rubbed her eye over a cup of coffee having just got off the computer where she was preparing a presentation for today (left eye not sure top or bottom lid- suspect top) and apologized for twitching in front of me –which I had not noticed-the twitching that is. Unlike some cases on this blog no one has ever noticed my twitch. Anyway I confessed all and it was in the memory of that mutual sufferance that today I googled “twitchy eyelid” rather than get on with the report that was due last week. My current thought on having read (some but not all of) the posts here go along the lines of how common the problem is. I can see that some of you have rushed out within a week of twitching seeking help and that others like me have marched on stiff upper lip, twitchy eyelid for years (a grand pathos). From the how common is twitching question I can also sense that I am in the right place to pin twitching on computers and coffee and alcohol and vitamins and smoking and minerals and viruses and the brain turning to mush and being 40yish but these all seem insignificant to my current sense of guilt and loss. The guilt/loss is that I wish I had not confessed to Kate that my eyelid too twitched. Why did she confess to twitching? A princess with a pea under her mattress? How rude was it that just when she had cried out for help, in an apologetic way, that instead of believing her need and setting forth to find soothing balms, I did the “I get that as well and have had it for years” mutually assured destruction defense. Did I google “twitchy eyelid” because I am seeking a cure for Kate or as a penance for my insensitivity. Should I blame my twitch? If I had never twitched I probably would only have had sympathy for her. I might have tried to make light of it and point out that it was sure sign of madness. I have a sense that my twitch is mischievous (I think that evil would be a bit extreme) and that by me admitting to twitching that I too was drawn into a mischievous act by my twitch.
So why did I google “twitchy eyelid”. Well now that I have found here that there is no obvious money back guaranteed cure, that what I should have said to twitchy eyelid was that the only cure for a twitchy eyelid was a tickle on the soles of the feet. Not a foot held aloft ready to be yanked away but held firmly by the tickler intent on taking no prisoners. Hopefully now I have embossed (googlestamped) that on the twitcher debate, for all time: A GOOD TICKLING IS THE ONLY CURE FOR TWITCHY EYELID and am off to find a feather duster.
PS is there any relationship between the mischievous twitch and the dominance of the eye? For instance my twitch is in my right eye and my left eye is dominant. Is this normal? (as normal as a person with a twitchy eyelid can be). If the twitch had been in the dominant eye would I have “reported” it sooner or instead of being mischievous might I have been really evil?
PPS At the time of posting googlestamped was a googlewhack
PPPS ticking oneself does not work feather duster or no feather duster
i also get the feeling on my upper arm, shoulder, in my ear(pisses me off),upper leg, front of calf, and behind my ear.
It’s comforting that I’m in the company of many upper left eyelid twitchers! Mine started 5 days ago and yes I see when I drink more water that the twitcing is less. Stress well yes dont’ we all have it but my major stress got a great deal better 2 weeks ago so why now. I’m trying to limit my caffine intake too. We will see – i’m sure it will go away just like all the other mystery ailments.
Eye twitching is a problem understudied/researched by medical professionals, but can’t be ignored because it causes tremendous stress for sufferers. Hence, this obscure blog mentioning it suddenly generates TREMENDOUS worldwide response.
More medical attention is required in this area. I’m self-conscious and preoccupied about my left-eye twitch. Here’s a tantalizing question for medical researchers: Why do approximately 85-90% of sufferers (based on this blog sample) suffer specifically *LEFT* eye twitches?
WHAT!!! No Solution!? My eye has been twitching for two weeks now and it is really driving me crazy!!!!!!
Arrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hello Eye Twitchers,
I am joining your club. I got this problem for the first time in my life and I think it started few days back. I thought it is something strange and only I have. I googled it and came to know I have got a club.
Its little sad that there is no proper remedy for this. Anyway, let me try one by one.
Okay, try this…we’ve done everything else as a group…I was talking to a friend who is a real medical type of guy and he says that YOGA and stretching out the muscles every day for 30 minutes may help out those muscles that are tight and unused…also the YOGA will reduce the stress causing the eye twitch….it’s worth a try. Try typing in “FREE YOGA DVD” and it will come up with a file you can download and play at home. He’s been doing it and it has worked quite well with his stress..he doesn’t have twitching, but other stresses that cause him problems. Intake quite a bit of water to keep the muscles hydronated (a word??)…Any other ideas for the twitchers would be appreciated. Most people I talke to are having body twitches as well….usually resolve around muscles that are unused / unstretched….
This is wild.. Mine started shortly after I discovered Pu-erh tea (chinese black tea).. i stopped drinking it and the twitches stopped.. Never did it when drinking green tea or coffee, just this Pu-erh stuff.
My left upper eyelids been twitching for nearly a week now. It drives me crazy when I try to do some work or sleep. I’m glad I’m not the only one, but that doesn’t offer a solution to stop it! Oh, there it goes again.
My right eye has been twitching for a few weeks now. I have experienced eye twitching before, but never lasting this long. I get very little sleep(mind wanders at night)and have three young boys….maybe this is my stress. I do like the idea about the good fortune. I think I will play the lottery tonight!!
Dear fellow twitchers.I am supprised that there are also other people having the same problem with me.I thought I was the only one.I have been suffering from twitching on my right down eyelid since Christmas(12/2006, now it is 7/2007).It all started while recovering from a flu.The strange thing is that my sister when recovering from the same flu had eye twitching but for only 1 week and then stopped. It is driving me nuts.It goes along all day.I was really worried from the first month and I went to 4 neurologists and an optometrist.I had a magnetic tomography, electromyograph to the brain, blood tests for magnesium deficiency, thyroid and others, that showed nothing. They suggested me taking B vitamins which I took to no result and finally one of the three neurologists prescribed me a medicine for epileptic in small doses which I’m very afraid of taking.I try to persuade myself that if I relax, go on vacation, start eating bananas, cut coffee and cola it will finally stop.On the other hand, reading all those written by your experience I’m really disappointed because I have concluded that nobody has really gone over it.
Bye,good luck to all of u!
My left upper eyelid started twitcthing last week. It has happened before but only rarely and didnt last long. This time it has lasted all week and it happens ALL day long.
Im trying to think what I did last week to cause it. I am under alot of stress at work now but I have had other times of greater stress and no twitches.
I havent been getting much sleep so maye that is contributing.
Im going to try the bananas and b viatmins and see if that helps.
Good luck everyone!
I’m Patti, Posted June 13th. this is an update. I have had continual twitching for months and revisited a website “rapid relief from depression using magnesium” The website talks about taurate as it relates to muscle twitches and tics (taurate is an amino acid) also, magnesium is known also for that too. well, I tried it, taking the capsules of Magnesium Taurate (you would probably have to order them, as most health food stores don’t carry it) and the twitch as rapidly decreased until it is almost gone, and I’ve only had the Magnesium Taurate for about 4 days. I’m taking one at each meal and two at bedtime, though I tend to miss some doses. I am now twitching about 10-20% instead of 80% and am twitch free at the present time! I think that other forms of Magnesium can help, but I think that the Magnesium Taurate combination an exceptional combination, read up on taurate and you’ll see what I mean. Hope this helps someone.
Anyway, life is good when you’re not twitching.
I have pulsing of my upper right eyelid for a week now. I feel better reading from experiences of people posted here. I must say that it is nothing more annoying than the floaters in both my left and right eyes.
Hi everyone! I am a 38 year old, mum of three kids who has been suffering with a twitch in the bottom lid of my left eye for a month or so now and at the moment the twitching it quite bad. Have had these twitching episodes in the past that go away eventually but not at bad as it is at the moment! I tryed increasing the water intake and I did notice on Friday and Saturday the twitching was a bit less. Have been to the doctor about this quite a few years ago and he did say try and reduce your stress levels. Also they do seem really bad when you concentrate on them. Thanks for a wonderful site, will see how it goes I guess!
Glad I found this site. My left eyelid twitches, well not exactly the eyelid, but the area right beneath my left eyebrow. Its not even a twitch, more like tiny little spasms or “pulses.” Almost like a bunch of little heartbeats. Its visible if you look for it, but you’d never see it if you weren’t looking for it. The problem is I can FEEL it, & its driving me INSANE!!!! I can’t work or sleep when its twitching. Feels like a tiny worm crawling around right under the skin. I’m desperate & going to have to see a doctor. Problem is what kind of doctor?? Primary care? Neurologist? Opthamalogist? HELP!!!! Please!
My RIGHT upper eyelid has been twitching since last week.
Right now I am taking Magnesium supplements, cut caffeine out, and trying to sleep more. I dont’ want to see a Doc yet because I want to see if this will actually work.
It is very annoying and depressing and irks the hell out of me. But I also feel some twitches throughout my body, like on my leg, cheeks, or tingling on my lips. But it is more prevalent on my upper right eyelid.
Good luck to all of you, and am prolly thinking about the Magnesium Taurate anonymous wrote on July 19th.
Hmm, will see if that will work.
Hello everyone. My left upper eyelid has been twitching now for a couple weeks. Right around the time that it started I had quit caffeine, quit smoking, and started sleeping more. I will have a pop on occasion, but nothing like before. My fiance was also here.. he is normally away because he is an Army man. So, my stress level was fairly low since he was here with me. I eat a lot of fruit and drink a lot of fruit juice, and I eat lots of salad. I’m also into eating only wheat breads and I’m all about flax seed and other weird stuff. So, my vitamin intake is pretty good. The one thing I’m lacking is calcium because I’m lactose intolerant. So, I suppose I’ll start back up on the calcium pills to see if that helps. Now what I really think is causing it is my Nintendo DS. My fiance bought me this toy about 2 weeks ago, and I was hooked from the getgo. I haven’t played it for a couple days, and I don’t notice my eye getting any better, but maybe it takes time. I’ve always had a problem with eye twitching but it usually just happened once or twice for a day and that was it. Now it happens every 5-10 minutes and lasts for 5-15 seconds. It’s quite annoying and makes eyeliner application a real pain in the butt. But such is life, so it seems. Good luck to you all!
This is incredible, while reading some of the information on this web site I reached over and grabbed my saline nasal mist and snorted up a bit. Incredibly within a few minutes the eye twitch stopped. I mean just like that. It’s sinuses in my case. So try this before getting a brain scan!!!
Wow… I had no idea this was so common. My right lower eye lid has been twitching for the last six weeks or so. It is annoying but I was mostly concerned that it was a symptom of something bigger.
Sounds like I just need more water, vitamins, sleep and relaxation. What a relief! I wonder if I can use this “medical emergency” to score more vacation days at the office?
Well the last time i posted regarding my upper right eyelid was on july 26th. I have been taking magnesium pills and just resting more and sleeping a little more than i did. And my eyelid twitch has decreased by about 50-70%. I used to get it every hour on the hour. Now i get it at least every 2-3 hours. I am twitch free right now at the moment. It has slowly decreased and i thank god for it. So i believe sleep, vitamins with an additional supplement of magnesium (i’ve yet to try magnesium taurate which i heard helps muscle and eye twitch) and just resting and relaxing is the key. I feel it will eventually go away for most of us. And praying does help. Good luck people. Just sleep!!!
Hello all, I too am a member of the ETC (eyelid twitcher club as mentioned above!)
Seems opinions are divided as to the cause and the cure but symptoms are similar and familiar; my top left eyelid was twitching quite a lot a few months back and I’ve absolutely no idea what I did but it stopped for a few months; now it’s come back again!
And like others – I have a good diet, sometimes supplemented with vitamins / minerals; am now drinking pure fruit smoothies every morning; 1-2 cups coffee (half caff) each day tops… am away from work for the next 5 weeks… stress?! Hardly! Still the bl**dy left (top) eyelid twitches….. a well meaning friend asked me if I’d seen the doc… no, why?!!! What’s the point – the doc will either get some invasive tests done or say come back if it gets worse. But I’m ok in myself, just the annoying TWITCH! Nice to know I’m not alone, frustrating in that I can’t cure it!
i just wanted to know could it be a more srrious problem? my twitching is only and usually when i yawn. and on my left eye. and i started to get som eweird head aches
yea its got me to just the left upper eyelid! it’s so annoying i asked my mom about it she said she took these b12 dots for about two weeks and they went away so ill try that. the good side to this, when i got out to the clubs guys seem to think its the “go ahead” and begin coming up and talking to me!!! so hey its not all bad!!hehehe
Thank you Luis, for providing a place for us Eye Twitchers to gather! I’ve been twitching for over two weeks now and only getting worse. My upper left eyelid (seems like the most common in these posts) pulsates and twitches and is damn annoying. It has now increased to 5 seconds in length every 90 seconds or so. Totally distracting. I guess I will try the Magnesium Whatever stuff that someone mentioned earlier. You would think that with all us sufferers someone would have fixed this problem by now. I guess they are busy with Cancer and stuff
Good luck to everyone!
P.S. I’m highly suspicious that is a food additive or antibiotic given to an animal that we have consumed as food that is triggering these spasms. Just a thought.
So, I am not the only one. Twitching constantly for 39 days now–awake, asleep, drunk, sober, in the tub, in the car, at work, at home…….. I eat well, sleep well, etc…so, I finally got a neurology consult from my doctor and I will keep you posted on what happens.
Eye twitchers of the world UNITE!
Me:
Lower Left eyelid. Very noticeable to others. I definitely notice it more when I get less than 5 hours of sleep. I think it started when I changed brands of contact lenses a few months back.
It is so comforting to know that you’re not alone with this annoying complaint. Yep for me, lower left eyelid…twitching merrily away most days.
So I think ironically it might be this very medium we are using to communicate the problem, is the problem. Too much computer use.
I also have a little dip in my lower lid (tiny, but def noticeable) which wasnt there a few months ago so I’m concerned noone else has mentioned this added complaint.
Anyone?
Hello Everyone
About a month ago my left lower lid started twitching and lasted non-stop for almost a week…I went to the eye dr got my glasses changed and it helped some…but my eyes still twitch everyday…maybe lasting 10 seconds at a time…I have an apt with a neurologist and will see what happens…any advice?

My left lower eyelid has been twitching on and off for a couple years. The opthalmologist said not to worry, it would go away on it’s own. It is currently twitching for five straight days, every waking moment. (No caffeine, tons of vitamins, plenty of sleep, no more stress than usual) Lucky us! Hang in there.
I just stumbled across this site. It is comforting to know that other people have the same irritating eye twitching thing that I have. Mine is almost always in my left upper eye lid. I haven’t had sex is a number of years and I wonder if that might have something to do with it. Wonder what would happen if we took a poll of all the people who are having this problem to see if they are having “relations” on a regular basis.
My left upper eyelid has been twitching for 2 weeks now and is so annoying. I do have allergies but I have had them for years. I haven’t done anything different and wish it would go away!
Good luck everyone!
I am so thankful I found this site also…this is really scaring me and it is comforting to have someone to share this with…it takes so long to get an apt with a neurologist…I hate waiting…I would just like to know if it scares anyone else…please reply….
Anyone notice that all of us twitchers seem to have the upper left eyelid twitch. Just thought it was weird as I was reading through the posts, but glad that I’m not alone. My right thumb was twitching a few weeks ago. I did some reading and found out I could be dehydrated. I upped my water intake and the twitch went away. I just started to eat a bananna everyday at breakfast when the eyelid twitch began. Maybe I should stop taking my b vitamins when I do that???
What a great site! Thanks. I have had an eye twitch off and on for what feels like forever. My eye dr suggested the banana trick but also throw in some magnesium. I also had heard that low fat in your diet can contribute. Sounds like everyone in on to something, ever since I went on a strict diet my eye twitching grew more and more frequent. I have since changed my diet to everything in moderation, added the old B vitamins, mag and potassium, much better. My suggestion. Eat healthy and exercise, this will also cure the stress, thus reducing the stress related eye twitch. Good luck everyone.
Yeah! The eye twich is werry annoying thing! i have it 4 days and realy start to piss me off and i can`t do nothing about it! I hope something will help me what i read on this site!
Cheers! 😀
Hi all, after about a week of eye tremors (definitely am good with the lingo), I decided to google it and low and behold here I am. I’ve experienced these off and on for many years and generally put them down to stress even if I didn’t realize I was under any. My mom claims that she always experienced eye tremors when she was worried about money so apparently they are genetic. There is a topic for a thesis. The diet ideas are new to me; I’ve always assumed lack of sleep, too much caffeine and stress are the major contributors.I have cut back on caffeine, got some sleep but the stress goes on
Are you supposed to eat more or less chocolate? I definitely believe more is better. Thanks for the entertainment!
Hello fellow eye twitchers. As we speak, I’ve had an upper right eye twitch for 2 days now. Annoying as all heck.
I have 2 toddlers and an ex husband (stress), I drink cherry pepsi pretty much everyday for the last 8 yrs (caffeine), my kids sleep through the night (plenty of sleep), I eat a banana almost every morning for breakfast (potassium). Only thing different is I’m on a low carb diet and I’ve been on that before with no eye twitching.
“Man, is this twitch driving me up a wall!”
One of many old wives medical tales I hear is twitching is from eye strain. I do wear glasses and I haven’t gotten my eyes checked in 2 yrs.
Who knows. I get these twitches on and off for pretty much all my life (I’m 31). I really don’t believe diet, exercise or any of that stuff has anything to do with eye twitching. But I feel your pain and annoyance just the same.
It could be related to Vit-B. I had other symptoms of shortage of Vit-B. I will try with some Vitamin pills. Hopefully it shu d go away. I am facing ths for last 2 weeks.
Regards
Prasad
Hello again fellow twitchers. I had written again to this site on July 18th 2007. My right lower eyelid still twitches all the time from Christmas despite the fact that I have taken B vitamins and I don’t drink coffee. The last few days I started drinking Magnesium but after I visited the following site which I recommend you to read http://www.eyevideos.com/ I decided to try the eye drops about allergies that are recommended in it.Has anyone tried these drops?
Bye.
My right lower eye-lid has been twitching intermittently every ten minutes for months already. It is so good to have found this site. Now I will try everything – vitamins, eye drops, cut red tea….
Once I tried with a warm to hot towel putting on the eyes, it stopped the twitching for two days, but sometimes it only stopped for a few hours but came back.
Does anyone know if MAGNESIUM TAURATE is a herb? becus its not in normal drug stores. nobodys heard of it. Maybe i hav to go to a speciality nutrition store? THanks.
i am one of the persons that have suffered from this voluntary bout of eye twitching which continued annoyingly for about three to four months or more religiously every day, and constantly.
i must agree with the rest of the people in this club that its quite disgusting. It disappeared just like it appeared (uninvited) and i am quite happy for this. I know i was going thru a lot of stress and that contributed to it. Now i know i have a goat’s mouth and won’t delve on that eye twitching thing for fear of is
re-currence.
Another left-eye twitcher…….more like a pulsating heart-beat really. For the past 3 weeks. Tumor? MS? Brain disease? Stroke? Probably all of the above.
Caffeine intake? Steadily increasing every day…more and more. Realizing perhaps I should make some attempt to decrease it which could help….except that would not help….
Stress? HIGH. 2 little kids. New high-stress job as COO of rapidly expanding company. Caffeine is critical to daily functioning.
Exercise? Constantly. Marathon, 200 mile 2 day bike ride, Triathlon…..so perhaps dehydration is the problem…..or training in sewage laced lake water?
Happy to see no one else knows what the heck is wrong either.
-Jeanne
So this site 1) cracked me up, and 2) settled my nerves a little because it seems I am not the only person going on week 2 of an upper eyelid twitch (more like tremor!). And it is driving me nuts!
Like some of you above, I have an overall healthy diet. I sleep 6-8 hours on average per night and I exercise very regularly. Ironically, I just started taking multi-vitamins a few weeks ago when the twitching began, but that would make no sense if I am getting all the essential B vitamins, calcium and potassium recommended to eyelid twitch sufferers such as myself, right?!?
I am trying to find reasons why someone like me would get this damn fluttering eyelid. Here are a few (as my eyelid spasms RIGHT NOW as I type!):
-I AM in a bit of an fight with someone right now (and even though I don’t feel stressed about it, maybe I am?!? This has been going on for a month now and has effected my relationship with my dad, who I love so much).
-I stare at a computer screen A LOT (on some days, it’s all day and much of the night). But in the same token, I just went on a 5-day trip to CA last week and alas — the twitch is still here. I had no exposure to TV or computer monitors during all that time — and I was destressed. Maybe the traveling and time change didn’t help?!?
-I drink 2 cups of caffeinated coffee per day. This is pretty much daily.
**************
So those are the only downfalls I can find… I have had an eyelid twitch before, but never so persistent and “fluttery” as this one… and definitely never as long. I have contemplated visiting a doctor. I’ve tried eye drops, I bought some bananas… I didn’t stare at a damn computer for a week — but yet the twitching persists and annoys the hell out of me!
Any suggestions? Anyone? Help!
Thanks in advance,
Sincerely,
A very annoyed / leery eye-twitcher! (never thought I’d see the day I’d be posting a bulletin like this looking for support!)
my left eye twitches, havent figured out for sure, but i think its upper eye lid,
i think it s been about 4 weeks, it scares me, do i have brain dammage? should i go to a neurologist?
i hope it goes away soon.
i get it it lasts a little while then stops, it was gone for a few days its back.
scary,
i heard university of md and Johns hopkins do treat it with botox if you have a disease form of it , but I am not sure.
What a great blog. Helps to know we’re not twitching away alone.
My muscle spasm isn’t really on the eyelid, but a little below the “bag” underneath the right eye. Started just after exercising three weeks ago and hasn’t let up since. Anyone else have it there?
Doc. no help at all–no suggestions whatsoever … only “it will probably just go away.” Maybe and hopefully she’s right. Bloody annoying though … as you all know. I would gladly accept a twitch on another part of the anatomy … but stuck out there pounding away for all to see .. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Thanks Luis. Keep up the good work everyone.
Hey i just wanna join the club lol! For a week straight my upper left eyelid kept twitching. That was a bout 2 weeks ago and now my same eye is doing it again. Its not pulsating but it feels like it. I feel like when im talking to someone they are watching it twitch lol. I think its hilarious that everyone has the same problem but its soooo annoying and i wanna smash my eye into a rock. Im wasn’t under stress the first time it started but after it stopped my dog attacked 2 of my birds and killed them and the next morning my other dog got stolen, maybe it does mean that if your left upper eyelid twitches it mean bad luck but im not superstitious, but this week im a little stressed because all of that happened. I dont have internet at home so i dont go on the computer much and i have good eating habbits right now, i just lost 3 pounds and i work at an Athletic club so i get to workout all the time, and i do drink a lot of pop but i always have and it never seems to effect me. Anyways im glad there are hundreds of people out there being crazy like me lol. Thanks just this site helped me lol.
Dear twitchywitch I am suffering from exactly the same symptom!but I have it since CHRISTMAS.I’ve tried B vitamins, stopped caffeine,I sleep properly but nothing. The last few days I’ve tried eye drops called EMADINE that seem to work.I don’t know what will happen when I stop them.I also drink magnesium called mag2 but I don’t know if it helps.Only the eye drops have helped me.I put in my eye 1 drop 2 times a day(morning and evening).
Maybe you should try it.
Good luck to you!
Thanks for the tip, Irini. I’m not sure if we can get those eyedrops here but will look for them. I’ll try anything!
I had another thought as to what triggered this. I had just had my teeth cleaned, which made one side very sensitive. A hot drink touched a nerve that sent me “through the roof.” Next day, I was twitching away madly.

It IS hilarious how this site became what it did, and by now it is one of the top sites that comes up when you search “twitching eyelid,” classic.
That being said I came to this site because of my twitching eyelid, but I’m a little worried because my twitch came in association with other things, particularly a migraine – my first and only, knock on wood. I think the twitch (upper left eyelid) started before the migraine hit, but I’m not sure to be honest and even if it did it wasn’t long before the migraine. I have actually been a little stressed out lately, but no more than plenty of other times in my life (maybe it’s just catching up with me?).
Either way, around the same time as the eye twitch started, I got this migraine. It actually started with my vision getting messed up, I saw strange wavy lines along the right side of my line of vision. It looked like the world was melting into itself. First I thought, “okay, I’m about to have a flashback, brace yourself,” but nothing happened past that, visually. This lasted for about 10 minutes, and about 30 minutes later I was hit with what I realized was a migraine, even tho I never had one before. I’ve heard enough about them to know what it was: dizzy, terrible constant pain, extreme sensitivity to light and slight nausea. I took some pain pills right away, went into a dark, quiet room and willed the pain away, really. I don’t know how long I was in the “dark room” but when I felt well enough I got out and went about my business at work. I didn’t feel completely well for the rest of the day, left work early and went home to sleep around 2 or 3PM for the rest of the day.
Like I said, this was my first migraine. I’ve never had one before and I don’t know how I got it. My family doesn’t have a history of migraines, either. The twitching eyelid has either come at a uniquely coincidental time, or they are somehow corrolated. Either way, the pain of the migraine is gone, but the eye twitch persists. I eat pretty well, sleep enough and have a decent diet. I do have stress with my job, but I always have, and this week wasn’t even a particularly stressful week, just normal.
I don’t know what I expect to get out of this, but at the very least it does feel better to lay it all out in text and sorta free my brain from holding it all in and analyzing it. At the risk of turning this blog into a migraine oriented blog, does anyone have experience with migraines? Is the eye twitch normal with migraines? I’d appreciate any info people have. I’ve done my research and I know what the “experts” say, but I think that the best way to understand something is to discuss it with someone who has also experienced it first hand.
Thanks for the ears (eyes, actually!).
I am so glad to have found this site- I feel relieved that it is probably not serious-however annoying. My lower left eyelid has been twitching for about a month. It started all of the sudden one day and has not stopped- happens multiple times in a day, and some days are worse than others. I noticed this morning when looking in the mirror that although I could not feel anything I could see my lower eyelid-upper “bag” area rapidly pulsating continuously for about 10 minutes. I drink one cup of strong coffee in the morning, eat fairly well- a lot of fruits and veggies, exercise regularly and probably don’t drink enough water and I don’t feel overly stressed. I must say that it is driving me nuts.
Dear fellow twitchers, after I’ve tried B vitamins, bananas, eye drops and finally magnesium it seems that the twitching of my lower right eyelid has lessened during the day.It started getting better with the eye drops and after 1 week of magnesium intake it has almost stopped. The B vitamins had not helped me at all.
How much magnesium are you taking, Irini? I just started by cutting a 300 mg in half, as they’re HUGE ..but not sure if 150 mg is enough to make a difference. Bananas haven’t done a thing, although they can’t hurt!
Also I was wondering if anyone had tried using a TENS machine (Dr. Ho), which makes a muscle contract, then relaxes it. I’m a little scared it might just exacerbate the problem though. I certainly wouldn’t attempt this right on the eye, but since mine is more on the upper face below the bag, it might be worth a try. Any thoughts?
Great blog and tons of responses. We are 3 women in a billing dept who all have lower eyelid twitches. Two of us have right lower lid and the other has left lower lid. We are all stressed, work on computers for more than 8 hours and drink lots of caffeine. So I am sure we all fit the bill.
Dear twitchywitch, goodmorning. I’m drinking ampoules of 10ml each one three times a day after I’ve eaten something.I asked my neurologist and told me that I can continue drinking it until I’ve completed 2 months. The name of the ampules is Mag2.
Twitchywitch may I ask you from where do you come from?
Thank for the info., Irini. Sounds as if the liquid magnesium would be much easier to take than the enormous pills I have! I’m originally from Cornwall, UK, but have been living in Canada for many years … Nova Scotia.

Dear twitchywitch I hope Magnesium ampules work for you too.Good luck to you.Let me know if you have an improvement.
I love this twitchy blog! Im twitchy too.. upper left. For three weeks now, mostly in the evening.. Makes me feel so paranoid when im talking to someone in the pub..
Goes something like this…
“Can they see it twitching? They must be able to see it. It feels like its really obvious. Bet they think im a right wierdo. Yeah theyre definitely staring at it. Right, im going to the loo to stare at myself in the mirror. Oh, i cant actually see anything. When i look at it in the mirror it stops. But now ive turned away its back again. What if i squint to the side? Now those girls over there are staring and wondering what im doing. They must think im really vain. Oh, i ll have to go back out there. God i feel so paranoid.”
Anyone else think there must be a link between twitching and spending all our time on the internet reading blogs?
People. Tomorrow. NO COMPUTERS ok? At all, no not even myspace.. Or hotmail..

I’ve had the eyelid twitch on an off for weeks at a time this year.. and I think I finally found a treatment…
My eyelid twitch started when I was taking an excellent multivitamin and magnesium tablets… so my next step was to try having more bananas, etc. and all those other cures everyone else has suggested – and nothing worked (though I do still have caffeine).
This week I started getting some allergies, so I had some antihistamines (Reactine, and Benadryl, 2 different times)… and I noticed that the twitch went away.
So today, I had the eyelid twitch… so I took a Reactine.. and lo-and-behold.. the twitch is gone now! It’s not a permanent solution, but it’s been 3 times in a row, and antihistamines have done the trick.
If you already take allergy medicine, maybe you’ve built up a tolerance.. so try a different one.
Good luck everyone!
I’ve suffered on occasion, and it’s always been my upper left. For the past 4 weeks I’ve had it near constantly.
I bought and started taking a B vitamin complex yesterday, containing all the B vitamins, not just 12 or 6.
My eye has not twitched in hours. HOURS. The relief is almost enough to bring me to tears. Placebo? I don’t care if it is.
Well, I just got out of bed to research this annoying eye twitch thing (lower left tonight, but upper right last week), and I feel so much better now. Of course, I’ve learned absolutely nothing from this site (except that there are ALOT of us out there), but I’ve been laughing so hard my eyes are watering and the stupid twitch has gone away.
Too bad I can’t get you on my office computer – I’m certain that my customers are distracted by MY twitch. So, I just hold my hand over the vibrating eye, and conduct business one-eyed. Do you think this is more distracting to them that the twitch?
Hello Again Fellow Eye Twitchers
Well…I went to see the neurologist last week…he says he thinks it is anxiety and stress related…I have to have some blood work done and a mri of the brain to rule out everything else…am I relieved that it is not something serious….YES…does it make the eye twitching any less aggrevating…NO…willl keep u posted…Keep on Twitching…lol

Hello,
I had eye twitching in the past, never like this. My mother is a physician down in Mexico, she always associate this as a lack of rest and stress. But about 2 or 3 months I started to have twitching again now in both eyes. It is weird because some times I also feel more “tremors” in other parts of my body such as my arms and legs. But eye twitching is a daily thing.
Just got another job and I had to move from North to South of US. Moving was so stressful to me.
Had daily B12 shots for one week, 3 weeks ago, now I’m taking B1,B6,B12. pills. However nothing has changed. My Mother keeps telling me that I need to relax and find a distractor other than my Job (like golf) But I’m scared this become something more serious. I’ll may go an see a neurologist to find more about this.
I’m so glad to find a site like this where I can share this “Feelings”
I’ll keep you posted.
Good bless you all !
So yeah after reading this site I am amazed that there are so many twitchers. I didn’t know there was this many people that suffer with the same thing that I am suffering with everyday. I HATE this damn twitch in my left upper eye-lid. I wish there was something that could done about it but I have narrowed it down to stress or to much smoking. I haven’t seen many people type about it being smoke related. I think it is because I smoke EVERYDAY and I know that I am not going to stop smoking even though this twitch is SO annoying. Anyways I won’t go on and on but it was nice to find a GOOD site that I could read about this whole eye twitching thing. Feel free to E-Mail me with any suggestions. Thanks for your time…

Mine is my upper right eye and has been going on for close to 2 weeks (has never happened in the past and I’m 28 years old). It twitches on and off probably every other minute, but only for a few seconds each time and not extremely noticable. After reading several posts on this blog I’ve decided mine is b/c of 2 factors:
1) the computer usage, I am on it at least 8 hours a day due to work;
2) concerns over money (I wouldn’t consider myself stressed over it, just trying to make it through this month being tight so trying to budget).
I get enough sleep, usually 8 hours a night, eat okay, drink enough water and take a multi-vitamin. I’m also not usually susceptible to stress. I’m going to give it another week and if it doesn’t stop I’m going to the doc. But I am relieved to know there are so many of you out there.
I’m starting to wonder if my left upper eyelid twitch has something to do with dryness. Yes, I’m a constantly stressed out, anxious, type-A person, who loves her caffeine. But really, who isn’t stressed out from time to time? I also live in a dry environment and my daily intake of Starbucks and Diet Coke (hello, diuretics!) can’t help with moisture retention. Someone here mentioned B&L moisture drops. Think I’ll try that and wean off the caffeine. Ugh.
Here’s how to forgot those darn twitches (based on a recent personal experience):
1. Go for a power walk.
2. Trip on a loose paving stone.
3. Fly through the air and land hard on sidewalk.
4. Go to Emergency and get forehead stitched up, shattered wrist put in cast; take painkillers for fractured and bruised ribs.
… not recommended. OUCH it hurts!!!! Still twitching away madly, but for some reason, it’s just not bothering me as much!!! lol
I never would of thought there were so many eye twitchers aroud mine started about a monthand a half ago the right upper lid will twitch a few seconds at a time throughout the day about 10-15 times aday.its very anoying and sometimes startles me . ,i have had no recent life changes it just came on out of nowhere.
In INDIA we have a myth. For women if the left eyelid twitches then its good omen and if the right eyelid twitches its bad omen and vice versa for men.
I had twitching eyelids while working on my Masters thesis a few months ago and it lasted for a span of about 3 weeks. I’m happy to declare that I’m finally twitch-free! And honestly I think the only reason why they were twitching were simply because of lack of sleep, caffeine (too much of it) and stress. Once the offending factors were removed, so went my eyelid twitches.
I found a useful resource site about (and how to deal with them). If you’re having problems with that, you can check it out.
David
Based on your article, I’ve concluded that this annoying eye twitching, which is random and infrequent, coincides with my determination to rule the world. I guess I’ll get a little more sleep and relaxation before “I become a legend in my own Mind.”
My right eye Lid started twiching while i was traveling in Oz, i remember waking up in the morning and my right eye was almost dry..and hurt when i moved it or blinked – once it came back to normal iv had this crazy twich which is really driving me mad, the docs say it could be that i need glasses and the twich is caused by the eye trying to focus on objects. however i had that checked an i have near perfect vision and considering it even twiches during the night in total darkness suggests theyr totally wrong.
I personally think i have either had some kind of microbe attack or stuck in my eye or its a virus.i have spotting something interesting though.. when ever it get really bad it feels like there is a dry patch in one part of my eye. and when i get the odd tear in my eyes it burns!!
like something is causing it to be hyper senstive.
any ideas?
Think I have cracked it.. !! what is causing the twiching is a low grade infection in the tear duct. u can tell by when ur eyes tear – due to the high salt level in the tear it makes the eye in question burn like hell!
exacly the same as salt on a mouth alsa.
now.. whats the cure??
maybe sticking ur head in the sea… and trying to open ur eyes!!
Please help somebody! i never had this problem before ever in my life. my upper right eyelid twitches. has been doing this for about 4-5 days now. the first day it happened i thought oh it will go away by tomorrow. Nope!. I have a ton of stress. I’m going to get married, my fiance is about to lose his job, and i never get enough sleep, i love pop and caffeine. I will try the rememedies to see if they work, cause i can’t afford a doc right now. but i just want it to stop. What if this stuff doesn’t help? i sure hope it does. Well just wanted to say it’s nice not being the only one. I’m going to quit drinking pop forever if it means the twitching stops. it’s annoying especially when people see it happen while your talking to them. Oh well. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
WELL IM HAPPY TO FND ALL YOU TWITCHERS ALL THE WAY FROM 2003. FOUR YEARS LATER ,I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A STROKE FOR GOD SAKE . I HAVE TRIED THE DROPS PLENTY OF SLEEP AND YESTERDAY ITS EFFECTING MY CHEEK, BUT I HAVE NECKPROBLEMS AND VARIOUS HERNIATED DISC SO I WILL DO ALL YOU GUYS SAID AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. THANX FOR ALL THE IMFO.LOL KATIE
Stress. Plain and simple. I have had episodes of this throughout my life and I can always point to a major life event. Reading all this has made me laugh. That alone spells relief.
Well nothing has happened bad in the last few weeks. The kids went back to school and I have cut back on coffee, now I drink tea and this twitch is making me crazy. 1 week and no change but a crazy twitch. I know I feel better though knowing I’m not the only twitcher and so far it seems normal since so many others are afflicted too. So I guess it’s happy twitching!!!!
My twitch is driving me up the pole , I have looked in the mirror and can see no twitch whatsoever.
I lost my job after 25 years consistent employment and have been scratching around trying to get a job, the stress has been horrendous( but not life threatening…..nothin hlike those brain tumours that have been associated with twitching)
. My twitch is in my lower left eyelid, it could be associated withstress, infection the tear duct or absolutley fatigued due to stress of unemployment, also I don’t sleep at night very well without a Cider, Beer, wine
Hey!
This is the first time my eye ever started twitching! Here I was just an hour after it started, desperately looking for solutions. It’s almost always standard.. sleep, rest and blah blah blah {all long term solutions that werent any help to me then but thanks anyway!
}… I was at this site and they mentioned placing cotton soaked in cold water over your eyes for a while. I placed it over my eyes for like 5 minutes and the twitching stopped for an entire day. I have been having my exams, and been drinking coffee on a regular basis with me topping up my cup every hour or so and sleeping only 3 hours everyday.. And the twitching stays away after I place the wet cottons over my eyes for 10 minutes or so once a day! I hope people will find this useful…and enjoy! :p
Who knew this was so common!! I am an upper right eye twitcher. It has been happening numerous times a day for at least a month. It is driving me insane. I going to try the multivitamin route and see if that helps. I eat plenty of bananas, but stress plays are great part in my life. I guess I will need to try and reduce the stress, give up caffeine, and go from there. Thanks for all the info.
Well, I’m glad that I found your website. i get this nasty left upper eyelid twitch. Humm. I take my Vitamin B and eat banana daily. So, i would say stress or not getting enough sleep has a lot to do with it.. I heard this from old ppl many times…. there is an old saying.. if your left eyelid twitches, you’ll reunite or hear from friends or family member that you haven’t seen to for a very long time. See if this works and drop me a line.. I know it sounds sily, but give it a try. Wink, wink.
Thanks
I have always remembered having eye twitches at random every now and then, but the past month has been horrible for me. The other day at work, I swear to GOD my eye twitched the ENTIRE day!!! It would twitch constantly for like 10-15 minutes, then stop long enough for me to forget about it (maybe 3 minutes) then it would start back (upper right eyelid).
Then, today it started in my right cheek, about 1/2 an inch away from the corner of my mouth.
It’s also the same with hiccups.
I hate it! But it’s a relief to know that I’m not the only one.
Also, putting a warm cloth on it helps a little bit. At the least, it soothes the skin so you forget about the twitching while the cloth is covering it.
Cool… I’m not alone… The worse thing ever is searching google when you have a health issue/question… before you know it your reading about some guys brothers fourth cousin removed neighbour of the people next door to them that died… and had the very same symptoms!
I too twitch in the eye lid area.. the left bottom eyelid. I suffer quite alot with Alergies.. so always put it down to this.. and I also use computers everyday and most evenings…
Be good to get a definitive answer as to what causes it!
Cheers peeps
Pete
i’m a twitcher too!
i’m new to the club and happy to know that it a pretty big club…
can we get t-shirts, baseball caps, eye patches or something?
i want the world to know that we twticher’s are a proud group.
maybe we can have a twitcher’s pledge…wouldn’t that be great?
well, i’m an upper-lid right eye twitcher, and this site has made my creative juices start to flow…(no lumber puncture or bananas required!)…maybe there’s something to that good fortune myth…yes, yes, we will create a fashion line for all the twitcher’s and with the proceeds we will take over the world!!!!
i love a great plan…hahahahahahaha!!!
My right eye has been twitching now for a couple of weeks. It is interesting to see that I’m not alone. I don’t drink coffee or alcohol, I don’t smoke, my diet is ok, I take vitamins, but I do spend a bit of time in front of a computer. The other thing that I have noticed is that I have been getting sharp pains in my middle finger and ring finger on my right hand, not at the same time but has been happening as long as the eye thing. Is anyone else experiencing these pains in the fingers?
Hi All!
I’m very interested in what Phil said about antihistamines. Benedryl is a weird panacea type drug. In low doses it calms nausea, allergies and sleeplessness. However, can it be the cause of neurospasm in slightly higher doses? i.e. Hay fever season? or temp. sleep disorder? I’m starting to lean towards Diphenhydramin(benedryil) as a possible cause. It is prevalent in many over the counter meds. People! read labels. Is it in any thing your taking? I, for one, am sneezing and twitching and stressed out.
I’m a graphic designer and i play video games as well.. both my eyelids have been twitchy the last week or 2.. at first it was only my left eye one and a great while.. now its nearly continuous. only time it seems to go away is night time in low lighting.
argh. i feel like a frickin’ psychopath. *twitch~twitch*
I recently had twitching in my lower left eyelid a few days ago and it has gotten kind of irritating. I feared that I was already starting to exhibit signs of some neurological disease. Since it has already been a few days, I googled lower left eye twitch and saw a lot of results and this site was at the top. I think I’ll associate my condition with lack of sleep since that’s what I’ve been deprived of the last couple of days. I kinda knew that that was it since I started having it after being in front of my computer for extended periods lately, but I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t something really serious. It’s amazing that this blog is already 4 years old and people still comment on it. Since I’ve only had it for a couple of days, I’m somehow comforted that a lot of people have had it longer than I have. I’m going to have an extended sleep and see if it goes away. Good Luck fellow twitchers.
We are three women living in the same house. We all started having a left eye lid twitch 3 weeks ago. NO KIDDING! Since “the twitch” developed, I’ve been drinking coconut water every morning (for potassium)…NOTHING! I’ve reduced my stress…NOTHING! I’m napping every day…NOTHING! Nothing seems to help. We’re looking into environmental possibilities (why in the heck would all three of us develop “the twitch” at the same time?)…NOTHING! (that we can think if anyway).
Anyway, good luck to everyone. We’re gonna try the magnesium/manganese route. Meantime Cheryl is talking like a pirate (“Aaargh!”) because she covers her eye when it twiches.
Dina, Maria and Cheryl
Hi fellow twitchies,
Last time I got the twitches I had moved to Australia and had it for at least a month. Now 6 years later I’ve got it again, upper left eyelid spasming dozens of times a day. I just finished a 3 week road trip with 2 year old twins, so I’m guessing this twitch thing has to do with stress. Duh!
I’ve had a twitching upper right eyelid for the past 3 weeks or so and it’s been driving me bananas. I looked on the web, stumbled onto this blog, and it’s miraculously disappeared.
Thanks, Luis!!
(Damn, there it went again)
well thank you google for putting you on top. my eye, right has been twitching for a couple of weeks now, driving me crazy. i am under stress and have started taking saunas during that time, i wonder if the dry heat is a thing? also low in mag. thanks jess
With all this gloomy, anxious dicussion about myokymia, I’d share with you folks the lighter side of eyelid twitching – eyelid twitching superstitions
, to be precise
In China for instance, where superstitions and myths frequently cross over into modern living, the chief superstition seems to be that a twitch in the right eye signifies good luck, maybe a major windfall. A twitch in the left eye? Not so good. It’s a bad omen; a sign of ill luck headed your way!
i wanna join this club too!
my left eyelid has been twitching for over a month now and its really annoying, some instances it twitches too much i cant focus looking at anything. it twitches a lot when i drive too. it stopped for a week then now its back! its stops twitching when i touch it, but after a while it comes back.
hello. a quick simple question.
how do you pronouce myokymia, is it simply m-yoky-mia, or am i missing out?
cheers
mattx
Hi Matt.
I thought my-o-keemia … not sure though.
Twitchywitch.
Thank you for this, it’s very reassuring that it’s not caused by something worse.
Great website……My left eye brow started twitching 2 weeks ago and its pretty visible and very annoying too. In my case, I would relate it to stress, cause I sleep pretty well and eat healthy diet with vitamin supplements, but at present going through lot of work stress. Now brain stem neoplasm theory is pretty scary. Twitching of other body muscles along with eye twitching may be due to other neurologic disorders, the scariest one is ALS. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US.
It’s an evil eye spirit. It goes when you exorcise the evil eye spirit.
Arrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………
My left eyebrow is twitching too and is driving me and my work colleagues mad……!!!
This blog site is both hilarious and disturbing – didnt realise so many of you are out there – I feel soooo much happier that I am NOT ALONE…..I too suffer with upper left eyelid twitch – and have done for months. I get totally paranoid that people are watching it when they talk to me – but so far no one has said anything. Its probably stress and more stress thats causing it in me as my job is way too stressful …and my relationship too. Although I will reduce my tea drinking – I put two teabags inthe cup – so its a double whammy of tea! I hope its not parkinson’s…..my dad has it – i must remember to ask him if started out with an eyelid twitch…
Anyway hey at least its not cancer!! Look on the bright side….But I will definitely try reducing caffeine intake and am going to start meditation again each day – so I will report back to you all if it works
Well, I am also suffering with this problem of my right upper lid twitch for the last one month. A few years back, I had faced a similar problem and at that time I had tried Pulsatilla 30 – a homeopathoc medicine as prescribed in Kent’s Repretory. It did work and my problem disappeared, but this time it is not going and I am eagerly searching a cure for the same. I am desperately looking for a cure that might work.
Till then best wishes to all of you for a speedy cure.
hello. yes another one. left upper for me. I’ve only had it for afew weeks, and it’s often triggered by yawning or laughing. Interestingly about a year ago, I had a twitching thumb on the same side, which my doctor said was “fasciculation” although that might not be the right spelling! Anyway, that vanished of its own accord. Re the eyelid, he said that unless it was associated with other symptoms like loss of power on one side, it isn’t a symptom of anything bad. So twitch away. By the way, do you think it looks as bad to others as it feels? I can’t get to the mirror quickly enough to catch it!
Pretty predictable my left lower eyelid started twitching two weeks ago. I have had severe anxiety for year and have been on Brand Name Xanax. Recently, My husbands job switched insurance carriers and I was forced to take generic Xanax. Having had problems with generic in the past, I called them to say just that and asked them to do a override which they said they could not do it. Right away the twitching started and my anxiety climbed. I called insurance company again and asked if my doctor wrote a medical neccesity letter why I couldn’t take generic xanax if they would override their policy. After being put through the mill and about 7 phone calls, 7 different foreign people I spoke with who couldn’t understand what I was asking, I finally got a rep who understood my concerns and had my medicine approved in five whopping minutes. Yeah–I twitched and twitched more throughout all this dilemma. My four year old died a wrongful death, my 22 year old just returned from Iraq, and my 14 year old is going through alot of medical issues right now of his own. Good guess without seeing a doc–it’s stress related. One half hour after I got my Brand name Xanax back the twitching stopped. Guess Campbell soup is better than Walmarts name brand. Hun? I ain’t even a doctor and figured that one out. Ya know if this country would stop dictating what the heck we need and listen to the patient who certainly would know their body best, one might not have to suffer. Just a food for thought for the ones out there considering practicing medicine. But then again, I am a nurse and I am right ninety-nine percent of the time, and when the docs won’t listen, that creates more stress on me. I live to help other patients and seeing them thrive on getting better.
By the way, my full name is Pamela Klopfenstein.
Thanks
Hope ya all get well soon.
Well I slept 9 hours last night, had a banana for breakfast and one coffee at 11. And my bottom left eye is twitching like a bugger right now.
Could it be due to the acid I experimented with as a teenager? Might explain the brain stem malfunction thingy.
Or is it just staring at this damn computer screen all day that’s doing it.
Ha, anyway, feel sorry for luis who’s blog has been bodysnatched by the world twitchers..
the upper corner of my left eye has been twitchng all fuckin day! thats what i get for the triple shot of espresso. you’re not alone
Hello! My name is Susan and I’ve been a twitcher for about a month now. Which is almost exactly the same length of time I’ve been working insane hours on a project at work. mmmm frequent work breaks, that sounds nice. I suspected the demon twitch was triggered by stress. Please make it stop!! Will just posting this make it stop? It’s my left upper eyelid, which means it’s the “bad luck twitch” as I just read above so I guess I’m really screwed. I also feel like my car is possessed lately & that it’s trying to make me crash it. Does this make me insane? If so it’s the twitching that’s driven me there. Help me! MAKE IT STOP!!!!
hey you guys i signed in weeks ago with a bottom eye twitch, im not home so i cant look at the brand but they are moisterizing tear drops for eyes . it is alot from the computer my doctor told me and if you have a spinal twitch in the neck 500 mg. chewable vitamin C, like 6 a day will help that enormously. u cant overdose on vitamin c and its good for everything. my twitch has finely stopped.yay good luck katie
I AM AMAZED TO FIND SO MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME.
BOTH MY EYES TWITCH, OFTEN AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! I WORK LONG HOURS IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER, MY BOSS DRIVES ME CRAZY, SSO MY TWITCHING IS PROBABLY CAUSED BY STRESS.
yep. I’ve have an eye twitch too. It is my right eye, upper lid, and it is berely visible. Anyway, mine seems real serious because i’ve had it for half a year now to where it twitches off and on every hour of the day, every day! A couple days, maybe even a week, but “6 months”? ….. has anyone else every had one last this long? I am a college student who has no time to go to the doctor. I am not stressed in any way. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Hi guys, I was on this sight about six months ago in January and I was miserable. My eye twitch was so bad that I did not even want to leave the house. And yes, Mike, it lasted for about six or seven months. I realized that I had so much anxiety built up that I am sure thats what the cause of it was. Well, needless to say, I started therapy and I am taking 50 mg of Zoloft to help with the anxiety. I started working out and doing yoga. Well, needless to say the twitch is GONE! I talked to some people and they said that it could last for a year so dont fear…it will go away and it may come back…
Alright, how about distance conversion? Cover your good eye(the non-twitcher)Is everthing slightly dimmer? Uncover it, All seems bright again.Practice SEEing with the twitchy eye while the non-twitchy(good eye) is covered. This may take a few tries(3-6 minutes several times per day)but I think that some of you will get relief. I finally figured out that I see two images(double vision) when I SEE(or look) with both eyes. Eyes are operated by nerve impulse. I’m exercising my twitchy eye for now. If no permanent improvement happens soon…. I’m going BOTOX! That will stun the bitch! I mean twitch!!(are you reading this with your good eye covered!)
lol Twitchy2. Might be worth a try.
Guess what? After twitching non-stop day and night 24/7 for four months, I awoke yesterday morning to find it had stopped. Maybe the nerve/muscle finally realised that nighttime was rest time …. or maybe my body has been so busy trying to cope with the pain of the broken wrist that it just got exhausted.
Not to get too excited, however, because last evening it was back in full force. But again it’s stopped this morning, so just maybe it’s on its way out. At least I’m having a bit of respite!
I’ve been a reader of this blog forever and I never had a problem with eyetwitches. I didn’t even think about it until I read another post of yours referencing this one because it is clearly the most commented on.
So when my eye did start twitching lately I thought of your post and wondered if it might help. after reading it, I’m happy to say it hasn’t. lol.
but thanks for many entertaining comments!
Guys, something wierd has started to happen. Along with the twithing, my right eyebrow has started to go numb! (just for like 10 secs) It has happened to me about three times now. Any body ever had that problem?
When I came to this sight I was just wondering what caused all the twitches. Now I think I’m probably dying. Oh well, I guess I’ll sleep it off and eat some bananas and I may be okay.
I’m an upper left twicher too. It would be interesting to see a chart of which part of the eyelids everyone else twiches on. (I’ve seen a lot of upper lefts.)
😉
I’m a upper right twitcher! I like being in the minority
Hey Guys,
My left lower eyelid has been twitching now for four days. It is more of a pulsating twitch. It bothers me a lot. I do not even like to look in the miror. I have been staying up late for the last several weeks. My job is very stressful. Will someone give me some advice about this disorder?
I also suffer from these twitches (a recent problem) I found it amazing that Vitamin B was listed as a cause as I have been receiving vitamin B shots for well over three months now and it is only recently that I have begun having the twitches. Always the right eye, upper lid. Very irritating.
At least it is not a sign of a stroke which is what I was originally thinking.
I have had this twitch for about two months….Like everyone else said…. ITS DRIVING ME INSANE!! Is it caused by stess I dont know but I know one thing…the twitch is certianly stressing me out….the more I twitch the more stressed I get, omg make it stop!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps….new job, new baby on the way, allergies and lots of caffiene SOMEONE FIND A CURE!!!!!but glad to be part of the club…….lol
Surely this blog is what the internet was invented for. I’m the proud owner of an upper right lid twitch, it’s driving me potty but I feel soothed now I’ve been here. I’m considering buying an eye-patch and making a feature out of it.
Upper left twitcher here, glad I am part of the majority! Some of these causes do sound quite scary…. the people who say “lack of sex”… That cracks me up!
Seems my trigger is when I squint. Twitch, twitch, off it goes. Kind of went for a long time a few hours ago, stopped for a while and wow… just had another one. These strange things that go on in our bodies!
I do not feel worried about this at all. Had a Brain MRI back in Feb. of this year and everything was aok. Unfortunately due to my hyprochrondriac state of mind I have basically convinced myself that something lives inside my head. I think I will try the Vitamin B route and see how it goes. Awesome website, so glad I found this!
I guess that I’m a rare case. My lower eyelids usually twitch after REALLY good sex, lol. It sometimes gets to the point where I can’t open my eyes for about 5-10 minutes sometimes. Is this at all a bad thing? I usually laugh about it…
I just want to say iv been suffering the ET too.. and its annoying, but this website is so cool, and just made me smile about the whole thing!
Oh my…so many twitchers. I have an upper-lid right eye twitch, and it’s driving me crazy as well. I guess from reading everyone’s comments that no one really knows why. Hmmm, I’m seeing my doctor on Wednesday, I will let you know if he has any ideas.
Take care all,
Elayn
Upper left eye seems more common then most mines been going on for 6 months. Lots of sleep and low stress but I find it comes on when I let my mind concentrate on two or more things at once. Maybe I should start focusing on one thing at a time. I do consume alcohol 2 to 3 times a week if thats the case then perhaps I am doomed and will have to give up the drinks. Good luck everyone great to see all of the twitchers unite.
i had ET for a while but it stopped when a friend of mine mentioned the Baccardi Rum solution. First soak your head in a pot of rum. Be careful not to spill any. Waste not, want not. Keep your eyes closed and gently lift your head out of the pot, while keeping the tongue moving in a snake like fashion. Repeat this until all the rum is gone. The eye twitch will stop…i shink..
all the best
Youngo
;:O)
I’ve got a right upper eyelid twitch. Twitchers Unite!!!
lol, Youngo. Must try that!
Seriously though, I’m beginning to think that this twitch thing has to run its course. Perhaps the banana, magnesium, B vits., etc. can help (can’t hurt obviously), but just maybe it’s coincidence and not cure that causes the twitch to stop.
I’d tried everything to no avail so just resigned myself to the fact that my “friend” was with me forever. Then suddenly it stopped at night and now it’s with me just for a couple of hours each evening.
My advice is to just kick back and let it do its thing, annoying though it is.
Good luck!
well… i finally got to see a doctor after four weeks of being at school. (WMU!) It was actually for a resparatory infection that i had, but i asked what he though about my eye twitch. He prescibed me a 800 mg muscle relaxant called skelaxin. I took one last night b4 bed and today is the first day in over 6 months i have not twitched! ( knock on wood ) actually, nothing on my body has twitched today. I feel quite rested and for once, Really happy! Not to mention how good i slept last night. im not gonna rely on the drug, but the relief is worth it for now.
zzzzz…
